This Campaign will use standard 3.5 Dungeons and Dragons in the Ravenloft setting.
This is a Ravenloft game - Classic Gothic Horror.
I'm really looking for the kind of players that role play at the table. I am the kind of DM that rewards good role play over good character builds. I know there are allot of things you can do in 3.5 that can make your character very powerful despite the game balance, and thats all fine and good. I would expect nothing less if the players wish to triumph over the darkness of the land. But the focus is in the story we are telling and the development of the characters in it.
Character creation will basically take a whole session. Its kind of a long process the way I like to do it and I get good info from the players about how best they like to play and how the Dark Powers will be manipulating that. Players will be starting the game at 1st level and each characters destiny will be foretold by the Ravenloft Tarokka deck. The players will have to decide if they will follow their destiny or fight the "Powers" that be.
The players may pick from any race they choose out of the Ravenloft players guide but the outcast ratings for non human races is a bit worse. 98% of the population in barovian settlements are human. They distrust magic and are a bit racist against non humans. There are some sub races of humans living in barovia. The human ethnic groups consist of 44% Barovians, 50% Gundarakites, 3% Forfarians, 2% Thaani, and 1% other (this refers to humans outside of the demiplane of dread). Each ethnic group has its own Racial specialty, but all the standard PHB racial qualities for humans are the same. All humans also receive a +1 bonus to one stat of the players choice at character creation.
As mentioned above the players will be starting at level 1. The twist is that since the players are going to be native to the domain of Barovia, they must choose from the following classes located in the DMG:
The Adept, The Aristocrat, The Commoner, The Expert, or The Warrior.
From there the players will meet npc's in the world and decide what they want to do with their lives once they realize that the life they all once knew is gone.
