Start off the new year with a bash and a blast. The ever fun D&D meetup is back in 2008. Everyone's invited to join us at BattleForge Games for more fun times. The schedule:
1pm - 2pm: Informal social hour. Everyone is welcome esp people new to or just curious about role-playing games. Talking and getting to know players and DMs, finding a campaign to join, discussing new products and rules, learning about RPG's/D&D.
2pm-6pm:
The Sinister Secret of Whiterock! (A dungeon crawl for 2nd-level characters) DM'ed by Nick Jong Who has abducted the children of Cillimar? The answer lies beneath a mysterious standing stone in the moors overlooking the town. A band of local heroes has uncovered a hidden ruin there, while searching for the missing kids. Can they mount a daring rescue and put an end to the sinister menace, once and for all? Characters: 1) You may create your own 2nd-level character using the core races, classes, feats, and spells from the Player's Handbook, v3.5. Obtain ability scores using the standard point buy method (25 points). Assume maximum hit points on first level and average hit points on second level, e.g. a fighter with a Constitution score of 10 will have 15 hp. Equip your character with 775 gp of equipment and magic items from the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide. (Characters of this level should have 900 gp, but you have already paid 125 gp into the party health insurance plan: a wand of cure light wounds.) Keep in mind that for one-shot adventures, single-use magic items cost five times the standard price, so a potion of cure light wounds costs 250 gp. 2) Or you can just use a character provided by the DM. Standard point buy:

Ability Purchase Cumulative
Score Cost Cost
8 0 0
9 +1 1
10 +1 2
11 +1 3
12 +1 4
13 +1 5
14 +1 6
15 +2 8
16 +2 10
17 +3 13

I unfortunately had to leave part way through the event, but I loved the part I got to attend.

The crowd was very enthusiastic, and kid-friendly to boot. Both DMs came prepared, and handled their games quite well. We got a lot of socializing done as well as got some good gaming in, and there's even plans now for a possible D&D Meetup Movie Night. I really think this group has dramatically improved over the last year, and I'm very happy to see it happening. Great job, everyone!

Norm, can you rename the January Meetup so that the month is January instead of December? Thanks in advance.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
