Planet Eris Campaign: Rappan Athuk (Session 2)

Planet Eris is an ongoing OD&D White Box campaign that uses the Planet Eris house rules. Rappan Athuk is a multi-level dungeon and wilderness adventure for beginning & experienced players, run by DM Christian Southwick. New characters will be created at the table before play begins. Returning characters from other Planet Eris games are also welcome.

"Centuries past, the forces of good shattered Tsar— the temple-city of Orcus, Demon Prince of Undeath. The priests of the demon prince fled and sought refuge in a coastal wilderness, but were pursued by the righteous host. The fate of both armies lies obscured by the mists of time. Ancient sources agree that neither force was heard from again. Most chroniclers suggests that the army of good vanquished the dark remnant, but that victory was secured at terrible cost, with none surviving the final confrontation. If so it was a fair price to be rid of the foul priesthood. But not all of the chronicles are in accord. Some few scrolls assert that a portion of the demon prince's servants found refuge in a long-forgotten underground complex and came to flourish in its depths over time. They name this black sanctuary Rappan Athuk. Armed with a map that purports to identify its location, the party sets off to discover the truth and the legendary dungeon's reputed treasures."

I feel like we need to have more of a funeral/ceremony for Jimm's character's death. He must have spent at least a year getting that cleric to level 7, and he sacrificed himself to allow the group to escape. I think the next character he plays I'm going to give him first pick on a few magic items I win, and some good starting gold.

I think that Slug Bane gets special treatment from the next cleric of Ain's faith to come along. Spending 3,000 to give a new companion a second chance stands out as unusually kind. As for Akrios, the best ceremony to give him is one where we destroy his spectre and let his spirit rest!

We're going to need more protect life force scrolls and protection from undead scrolls.

Steven pointed out an error in my experience point calculations: I omitted the spellbooks from the calculation (both the one from Area 2-5 and the five recovered from the spectre). Including this would give each character 2037 additional experience.

Jimm, looks like Joey cannot make it anyway. But, for the benefit of anyone else, please do feel free to come even if the meetup shows the event as full. The more the merrier.

Thanks for thinking of me, but my wife had jaw surgery yesterday so I can't make this one. Will definitely be there on the 10th.

Pistol match sounds fun. Is that like a duel at 20 paces?
