Hike/Camp the Appalachian Trail in Virginia! Earn your AT trail name, VA, USA

  • July 25, 2014 · 7:00 PM

"One-fourth of the Appalachian Trail lies in Virginia. It varies from easy hiking to very difficult rock scrambling, from busy National Parks to isolated wilderness areas." Hike/Camp the AT in pieces. Check off sections on your AT trail map as your finish them. We will methodically attempt hikes, trail runs and fastpacking weekend trips in order to accomplish this. Who knows... if we finish VA... then we can hit the other States! No need to take off 3-4 months of your life to do this. We'll split VA into Blue Ridge Parkway South, and Shenandoah National Park North (and pieces in between).

Earn your AT trail name! Tradition says that everybody on the trail gets a name! Ha! We'll start off with some hiking and trail runs in the Peaks of Otter area. So far, we've been meeting (at least) once a month to bag another section. Tentatively, the Last Friday of each month. We will flesh out the details as folks sign up.  So far, we've been working with whomever says they want to go, and synchronizing schedules.

Has any decisions been made on the trip location? I've gone ahead and planned for hiking north Maryland because it's a real easy part of the trail and good for new people. Would also like some feedback as well.

Would like to learn more about this trip - I'd like to go, but a good amount of coordination will be involved.

Oh oh, I didn't see this camp and hike and camp. I thought it was a day trip. I have to work Saturday, not Friday.
