We love to ride, it refreshes us and helps give us a fresh outlook in our lives. Friends are made, rides enjoyed and adventurous experiences abound!

Our SF Bay Area gives us some wonderful riding opportunities locally for some wonderful day rides.  But how about longer overnight rides?  A weekend trip?  A week long trip cross country?  How about riding into a different country?  Alaska?  Mexico?  South America?  Or even doing a long distance competition such as an Iron Butt ride?

Good News!  Steve McCaa, noted long distance Iron Butt competitor, whom I met at one of my other Doc Wong Clinics in sharing knowledge with each other, has graciously volunteered to share his knowledge and experiences with you so that you can be more prepared and thoroughly enjoy your longer distance motorcycle trips!  Not all of us are interested in doing a "11,000 mile, 48 states, 11 day" Iron Butt competition, but let's hear from Steve on how to improve your fun and enjoyment of a longer distance touring ride!

Thanks for the presentation, Steve. Here are some useful links mentioned last night: www.roadtrippers.com to plan a trip, squaremouth.com to compare travel insurance.

I'm tentatively planning to ride my GSXR to Austin, Texas in April to watch the MotoGP at COTA. Roughly 1800 miles in 4 days at 450/day. Should be a great adventure! Contact if you'd like to join me.

Hey folks if you attended my last talk you know I talked some about the Iron Butt certificate (1000 miles in 24 hours) and long distance riding. I will be cutting that content from my presentation. BUT I will be meeting in the pizza place across the lot afterwards (http://www.meetup.com/Bay-Area-Distance-Riding-Society/events/166969122/) as I will be leading a 1000 in 24 ride on the 15th. Looking forward to it. I've done some 600 mile days, but a SS sounds a little crazy. Of course, you are what you ride...

I know nothing about touring! Looking forward to this. Thanks for offering.

So many great ways to tour, Guy. Being solo multi-state and setting your own timeline, stopping when something looks interesting. Group rides with buddies in other states or countries during business trips, seeing new sights and riding roads you might never see again (Austria my favorite). Two up camping with a kid or spouse sharing the experience, and trying to pack light! They're all great.
