The Best Job You'll Ever Have!
Ascentium is seeking a Senior .NET Developer for our Bellevue, WA offce. We offer a superior benefits package, very competitive salary, and relocation assistance.
We are a full service consulting company with Business Consulting, Interactive Marketing Services, Enterprise Content Management, CRM, BI, and Technology Services. We are headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, just outside of Seattle. Microsoft is our largest customer and is five minutes away, but we also service a large number of customers in our other local offices and that number expands daily. We work in web and application technology that helps companies take products and services to market. Our business is using technology and marketing to help the operations, marketing and sales organizations inside companies work together to grow. And we're really good at it. Our company is just about 6 years old, and grows at just about an alarming rate.
Why You Want To Work At Ascentium
You will be surrounded by very smart people who will push you to be the best you can be. We use XP/Agile methods, design patterns and write code and reams of documentation. You will work on more different stuff than you can imagine. You?ll be surrounded by people who really like to code and consider it an art. You get to work with new Microsoft Technologies all the time. We are passionate about being consultants, but we are world class technologists The people you work for will value you and you will like them. You will learn a lot of stuff. You get to take a team and work with customers and 'teach them cool stuff' every now and then. It?s a social environment, with a mix of cubes and open space - not a dungeon Interpersonal teasing, ridicule and playfulness is considered appropriate business behavior Developers are respected and revered. You won't feel like a 'resource?. We have really nice offices, and there are normal people here that do stuff like marketing and creative work. The career advancement is limited only by your ambition. Sci-Fi, gaming, political, and philosophical conversations are a daily occurrence. You will never have that feeling of 'I'm surrounded by clueless people?. You will not be 'staffed' out to other companies. We will actively try to get you to recruit your friends and family so you can work together.
Microsoft .NET/C# are at the core of everything we do, but the list of technologies is not limited to that. We push the envelope of what can be done with Microsoft products like MOSS, CRM, WPF, Ajax, Sal Reporting Services, and anything else our clients need. We use Nun it unit testing. We do not generally hire specialists, so everyone is expected to either have or develop SQL and database skills. We use a lot of design patterns. We use bug tracking software. We need to integrate with about half of the technologies that are used in business, so being able to learn new technologies quickly is important. At some point in your career here, someone will ask you to become an expert in a new technology that no one has ever used before... and they?ll ask you to do it in a few days. In demos of our code, we love to hear ?you can?t do that? it?s not possible? from the product developers. Not all the work is that sophisticated. We work on dozens of projects at once and you may switch between them a bit to help when needed. For six months you might work on something complicated, for one month on something not so, and for a week between projects, work on something trivial.
We put everyone on a program of certification because as a Microsoft partner, we are expected to maintain competency, and therefore your career development advisor will work with you to achieve your certification.
WE GET EXCITED OVER
Very smart, witty, funny, competitive Curious, insightful, and interested in new things Experience in a top consulting environment Knowledge of Agile/XP methods Knowledge of design patterns History of online solutions, working in a web or marketing agency Experience working for Microsoft People who want to bring their friends in to work here as well degree in computer science, with a minor in business Military experience
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
People who can obviously code Not everyone needs to be amazing, but really, we want people who can write good code and talk about it with non-technical clients. That's the business we're in. We have you take home a set of problems, and then come talk about it here with people in the interview process. They want to know you, and how you think. They are looking for smart people who write good code, and who think of the different possibilities, who are comfortable being consultants.
Ability to work self-directed. There are really no managers to micro-manage you, rarely specs to instruct you, and we work in short time frames that constantly change. You must communicate well, think on your feet, be able to design features, work in multiple styles, maintain your own task list, do your work in the time you estimated, and be a fun person to work with. We think it's the only way anyone would want to work. That's why we do it.
People who are a 'fit' for our culture
A 4 year Degree is preferred - or you will feel much more comfortable here if you have one. We seem to find that some of the best programmers however, come from the community college circuit.
MORE ABOUT WORKING AT ASCENTIUM
Ascentium is a career company that is owned by Partners, and we view nearly every person we hire as a potential Partner and stockholder. We try to advance everyone's career, sometimes even faster than they want us to. We have the lowest turnover rate in our industry, which is effectively zero. We work very hard at times when it's necessary, but we discourage long work weeks, and we actively try to find people with families who want to have a personal balance in their lives, and who don't want a lot of travel.
We travel along the west coast, but we don't travel much, and it's usually sales, PM's and principals. This can vary from a few days to a week. In most cases, it is infrequent enough that people consider it a perk to travel. We do occasionally work in a client? If we find a big client in another location, we would be more likely to open an office there.
The company culture has been described as one of 'smart, hip, social, hard-working, upwardly mobile, confident, competitive, entrepreneurial, urbanites' This was probably a bit of an exaggeration, because we have an large number of family people who are very senior, very knowledgeable and not all that hip. We also have a hand full of very quiet programmers who talk about computer games. But there is some truth to it. There is a lot of energy here. We think we just want to be the best, and work with the best. We want to care about our customers, and the people we work with, and be cared for in return. We want to make a profit doing that. This just seems like good business.
We will happily relocate top people. It is our charter to have a percentage of the company come from outside the region so that we're constantly adding new people and ideas to our company and our customers.
