Hashtag Lunchbag!

Bring ten sack lunches to the park and feed the hungry! It's really that simple.

The idea is that people can pack ten sack lunches each and offer them to those in need of food. This is not limited to homeless people. There are a lot of people who aren't able to afford three meals a day, so let's focus on them.

If ten of us each make ten lunches, we can feed 100 people in one day! How awesome would that be? Imagine if friends tell their friends and family members tell other family members. Our 100 lunches can grow into 150...200...250...and MORE!

Here are some guidelines/tips/suggestions:
1) Know that you are making a positive influence on a stranger's life.
2) You can get everything you need to make ten lunches for around $5.00.
3) You should let others know about what we are doing.
4) Helping people may cause feelings of the warm and fuzzy variety.
5) It is a good idea to pass lunches out with a smile on your face and a partner at your side.
6) Don't feel like you need to do too much in order to help.
7) Making these lunches by hand is more cost effective and from the heart than buying something off of a dollar menu.
8) Consider offering food to the people you see in need on a daily basis.
9) Know that not everyone may be gracious when you offer them food and prepare to smile at them anyway. (This was not my experience at all.)
10) We pay it forward so that we may bring hope to those who need it most.

Just so you know, Dollar Tree//99 Cents Stores sell a bunch of items that can be used for these sack lunches, including fold sandwich bags, zip bags, paper sacks, bread, pb (I would recommend spending the extra two bucks to buy Skippy or Jif), jelly/jam, snacks, etc.

Ideally, each lunch would include a sandwich, fruit (apples or oranges will hold up well), and a drink (water bottle). If you can only commit to making a sandwich, that's one more sandwich than they would have had otherwise. If you want to make a bologna and cheese sandwich, you must be conscious of that four hour time window before food borne illness becomes a threat. Pb&j has no meat or dairy and may be an easier way to go!
