Blazing Paddles - Dragon Boating 201 Practice

Do you love the water? Looking to cross train or get involved in a team sport? Experience the excitement of dragon boating with Blazing Paddles! It's a great workout for core, cardio and all-around fitness. No previous experience required. We provide the paddles and the life vests.

Where: Our practices are held at Holland Park, 801 Johnson Street, Hollywood, Florida.

What to bring: Water or a sports drink, sunscreen (you will get plenty of Vitamin D on the water!) and a good attitude.

What to wear: Dragon boating is a water sport. Dress as you would to go canoeing or kayaking. Some people wear sunglasses and/or a hat.

How to begin? Joining Blazing Paddles is as easy as 1-2-3

Dragon Boating 101 is a free, introductory practice for first-time paddlers.

When: Every Saturday, unless we are racing.

What: We will quickly go over the paddling stroke, boat etiquette, safety procedures and some basic boating commands. Then it's out on the water to try your hand at it! You will get to practice the stroke, experience a simulation of a typical race and get a feel for what it's like to be part of a dragon boat racing crew. We will bring you back to the dock by about 11:00am and answer any questions before our crew goes into their regular practice, which you can stay for if you are interested.

Dragon Boating 201 is a paddling clinic open to those who have completed our introductory practice, Dragon Boating 101.

When: Monday and Wednesday nights.

What: We will distribute equipment, answer some questions and give initial instructions. We will then launch the boats and work on proper paddling technique (individually and as a team) as well as on timing, speed and endurance. This practice will be more intense; you will have the opportunity to train alongside our seasoned paddlers and enjoy a hard workout. You will be back at the dock by about 8:30 pm to help put the boat away.

If these sessions have left you wanting more, speak to the Captain regarding your readiness to take the next steps in joining Blazing Paddles. Those persons who have demonstrated basic proficiency and a desire to paddle competitively can join our team. One of our veterans will serve as a mentor to answer questions and facilitate your progression as a paddler.

Please CALL Captain "Iron" Will Murphy at[masked] (OR EMAIL [masked]) to confirm BEFORE COMING OUT -- we sometimes change our schedule and we don't want you to come out to the park and be disappointed not to find us there. See you soon!
