Join us for Saturday Night Sketching at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. We will meet Saturday, October 26th at 5:30 p.m. inside the 81st street Group Entrance on 5th Avenue. (This Meetup has been extended to 3 hours!)
After we meet we will head upstairs to the Greek and Roman Galleries where there are hundreds of large and small-scale ancient masterpieces to work from.
Sketchers are encouraged to explore the 27 rooms within this section of the museum and to sketch any objects or spaces that interest them.
While they are working I will make my way around to each sketcher to check in and talk about their work. We will discuss what they are succeeding at and what might be eluding them. My plan is to visit each sketcher at least twice during our session.
We will draw until 8:30 p.m. when we will gather for an informal look at each other work back at the Group Entrance.
This Meetup is for sketchers of all levels.
If you do not already have supplies, I recommend getting a drawing pad up to 16"x20" (smaller is okay). One each of the following pencils, 4h, 2b and 6b. An eraser and a pencil sharpener. I recommend Utrecht Art Store. Here is a link to their locations. Just go to the closest one. http://www.utrechtart.com/stores
Some Museum Stuff:
Museum admission is not included in the event cost. Museum tickets are suggested only and you may pay as much as little as you wish.
Please note the Museum Sketching and Copying Policy:
Sketching, in pencil only, is permitted in all the permanent collection galleries of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The use of ballpoint pens, ink, markers, fountain pens, or watercolors is not permitted at any time. Crayon, pastel, and charcoal are permitted only on Museum-supervised tours that specifically authorize their use.
While sketching, please do not hinder visitor traffic flow in the galleries.
During periods of high attendance, the Museum reserves the right to make any necessary adjustments to this sketching policy.
