I still haven't started on the actual jacket yet, but I'm hopping to get a good amount of it done this weekend!

Slight hiccup on my jacket project: yes, I am going with the white jacket, - no, I didn't manage to do any more on it. Only update is that I tried it on and found that the shoulders are a bit wide. I hadn't noticed that before? I am thinking of using shoulder pads and that stiff material that tailors use in coats. I don't know what it's called though, does anyone have any idea? It's pretty stiff and a sort of mesh I think. It might be a bit plastic-like in feel?
If you can think of a name for this, or something else that helps to reinforce a shoulder so the outside doesn't droop (where the seam to the sleevehead is) - I'd be very grateful!

Are you thinking of buckram Giselle?

I did a bit of research and reckon buckram may not be what I'm looking for. I think I narrowed it down to hair canvas or even horsehair canvas. I bought some, let's see how I get on! (This is all such fun, a lovely challenge!)

Well, I thought I would get going on the jacket on Sunday morning before I went out for lunch. Got both sleeves into toile , added shoulder pads and it looked good, asked other half how it looked at the back. "Fine" was the reply, So I cut out the fabric. After returning in the afternoon I remembered something Giselle had said at Saturday's meetup about how useful it was to get a photo taken of the back of your toile when fitting. Should have done this before cutting out and not relied on a response from someone whose idea of a garment fitting is that it goes over his head! The back is a disaster! I immediately started ripping apart the back of the toile and desperately hope I can salvage it.

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear about the back! Good thing you know now before you got any further in sewing the jacket itself.
If you couldn't cut the corrected back piece again from your fabric, perhaps you could piece it together out of remaining pieces where the seamlines form "your own design", you know: make it look as if it was supposed to be this way? That's my go-to strategy when something goes wrong.
Fingers crossed that you can salvage it easier than that!

I just posted two photos in the 'Jacket Sew Along 2' album about the white jacket that I'm hoping to continue with. I haven't done any more on this over the last two months (while I intended to make that black jacket for the sew along but found that I don't like the style after all). I still need to make a decision about what material to use for the contrasting trim. That's what's holding things up.

How is everyone else getting on?

If not a jacket, are you maybe sewing something else? Please share! I'm curious.

Looking forward to seeing the white one complete. It's a lovely style and I think it will really suit you.

After my flying start with the toile in Part 2 im dissapointed to say i havent done anything else since! Iv mended some things and altered a bargain wimter coat i picked up, but now i need to knuckle down and get stuck in to my proper jacket. Trouble is, dont think i'll have any time this weekend either! :-/

Don't put yourself under pressure, I find that so counterproductive. You did so well with the coat! You never know you might find a spare half hour to do one little thing, just to keep your hand in. Good luck!
