How to do a FBA or SBA

Do you know how to do a full bust adjustment (FBA) or the reverse of it: a small bust adjustment (SBA)?

Commercial dressmaking patterns are made for B cup measurements and only some patterns will have separate pattern pieces for each cup size.

I will bring along copies of scaled down front pattern pieces and show you how it is done. Would you please bring a ruler, pencil and a pair of scissors each, we can share some sellotape.

It is a three (or four) step process that works the same for any kind of pattern. Whether the front piece is indeed one piece or made up of several. I will demonstrate each step and you can work alongside me: marking, cutting and moving the paper pieces.

I have only just started using this technique and I am astonished at how big a difference it makes. My sewing is going so much better now that I know I will be able to fit tops and dresses much, much better than before. I can't believe I didn't know of an FBA until a few months back. No wonder that I wasn't very happy with some of my sewing.

Bring along something to work on after we're done and we can have a normal get-together. We usually find a table somewhere between the dispense bar of the Riverside Terrace Cafe and the window frontage on Level 2.

I would be grateful if everyone who hasn't already given me the membership fee of £2.50 per year would do so at a monthly meeting or at this meeting.

Let's meet on Level 2 at the RFH near the dispense bar of the Riverside Terrace cafe. We can have some food and drink before we start. It can be a bit busy until 7pm when people go into concerts but we should be able to push tables together and get started at around 7pm.

This sounds very helpful. As a pattern cutter and always making things to a B cup, I've never really thought about this.

It is a very cool technique. It also opened up my understanding about other adjustments. I tried to fudge things before, this kind of technique is so useful. Looking forward to the session!

I'm a FBA kinda girl too so can do this one, if you need a hand with this Giselle I'm happy to come along and give members a hand / show how I do my FBA. (Which may or may not be the same technique you use).

Thanks Kelly! That sounds great. It would be great to have more people there to answer questions, yes please! I'll put together a written step-by-step guide I want to hand out on the day - I can email you that before if you like.
