Out and about: picnic and photos

The week of 14 - 22 June 2014 is dedicated to World Wide Knitting in Public (http://www.wwkipday.com/ ).

I thought we could join into the spirit of things and schedule a Saturday afternoon of hand stitching in a park. Maybe with a picnic? Or some ice cream from a nearby café - that kind of thing.

Then I started to think of sunny days, being outside, parks, lovely landscape - and the possibilities this offers: how about we take our finished garments and other items that we long wanted to take photos of for posting to our sewing or crafts blog? We could take photos of each other in our newly made finery - surely there should be a few snaps in there that are post worthy?

We could combine the two: take a picnic and photos. We will meet for our picnic, maybe some hand stitching too - and then nip off for a short while for the photos. How does that sound?

We could do both in Regents Park: it is a nice spot for a picnic and it has some wonderfully scenic backdrops all within the inner circle: there is the rose garden as well as the area around the smaller lake (the bird pond?). If needed we could change into another garment in the cafe loo.

Let's meet on the green just south of the central fountain for our picnic and then take a wander around for our photos when the mood strikes.

I hope you all managed to stay dry and I am looking forward to seeing some photos. I had a more frustrating afternoon struggling with a lapped zip. (I gave up the tempting alternatives of going to the gym or for a much needed pedicure to make a start on a skirt!) I think that my instructions were not as clear as they could have been. Had they been clearer then this method seems to be bit less challenging than the usual method.

I didn't brave a lapped zip until quite recently. My sewing machine manual's instructions are pretty good, we can compare notes next time?
We will post some photos too soon!

I think that I need to think about what zipper method I choose depending on the fabric. I struggled 3 times sewing in a conventional zipper in a dress. I have now ripped it out and an invisible zipper went in so easily! I wish I had just sewn an invisible zipper the first time instead of following the pattern instructions.

I had such a nice afternoon of coffee in the cafe, taking photos and getting in a picnic too, despite the weather and some rude football-playing adult-sized kindergarteners. I am really happy that Tash and Beth were wonderfully kind to take so many pictures. Thanks so much again!

Hi guys, Tash and I will be there. We'll be in the main cafe if it rains, or on a park bench near the fountain if it's nice enough. Pls text or fon to tell me if you're still coming so we know, thanks!

Ooh maybe, we have a fancy dress party that night and I'm making our outfits! That afternoon might be needed for last minute finishing touches! It might be a last minute RSVP!

Oh crikey, I would want to focus on the task at hand too. But if you get suddenly fed up and need a couple of hours' escape, then you know where we are.
      Have fun at the party!

I just found that I will probably not be able to make 21 June. How does the 14 June look for everyone? Could we possibly pull this forward by a week?

    May 19

    • Giselle

I changed the date to 14 June because I can't make the 22nd any more. I hope people are still available, many apologies if not.

Have just found out that I will be travelling with work on this date, so won't be able to make it. It sounds like a lovely meetup and it's a shame that I will miss this one.

That's such a shame. We will have do some more picture taking at other places, as and when needed!

What a lovely idea! I always struggle to take selfies and I don't have anywhere at home that's a good backdrop. I've sent this to a couple of other friends who might be interested in coming to join us - they might sew, knit, crochet or even sketch!

Fantastic! That's what I love to hear: that you're spreading the word (thanks very much!) and mentioning other crafts people can do.
I wanted to take photos of knitted projects in front of a great back drop for ages. A friend once photographed a girl's dress on the iron scrollwork of a gate near the Royal Courts of Justice. It looks beyond wonderful! I am hoping we can find similarly great locations for some lovely pics!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
