DWS 5 year Anniversary Party - A Private Awesome Mixer at Exchange LA

Dear Strangers,

*** Another Awesome Update 5/16/2012 ***

we are only 3 days away from our amazing party at:
Exchange LA

The club has contracted with DJ OMI/Omar to play our requests hits for us from 6PM until 10PM:

Omi’s infatuation with music and dance and the art of Djing drives his unique blend of Funky Sexy Progressive House. His musical influences have been wide ranged and many, from his elementary days in music school to legendary bands such as Led Zeppelin, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, and ultimately to current day DJ legends such as John Digweed, Ben Watt, Dennis Ferrer, and Danny Howells.

Anthony and the owners of Exchange LA have also informed us they will be supplying our group some finger foods early in the evening :-)

And DWS will be bringing Cake for the Occasion :-)

Don't forget to arrive early to the event and not miss out on the mixers, free finger foods and cake, free entry and cheap drinks at the most awesome club in Downtown Los Angeles :-)

*** Update 5/10/2012 ***

------------   WE ARE CONTRACTED   ------------

But seeing that the RSVP has risen so much we will not be able to go to Monsoon, they have informed us that they must cap at 400, but our new venue can handle more than 1000 DWSers :-)

Thank you...

Today I met up with an owners of Exchange LA in Downtown Los Angeles. We spent an hour hammering out the details for next weeks event and I am confident that we are all going to have an awesome time.

Anthony and I on the dancefloor of Exchange LA this afternoon after working out all the basics today of next weeks party.

It's time for us to have our Anniversary Party, and make it great.

The Club is welcoming us in at 6PM EXCLUSIVELY until 10PM when the general public is let in to party the night away with us.

That's right a 4 hour DWS mixer in the club which won:
LA's Danceclub of the Year Award 2012

Ask yourself, how often does a Meetup group get to take over a nightclub (one of the nicest in all of Los Angeles) all on its own for 4 hours with DJ, Drink Specials, Dancing, Mixing, In&Out options and More and its Members get Free Admission - Almost unheard of! Don't Miss Out, Plan to arrive early!

DWSers Only:

  • No-Charge for Entry
  • DWS WristBands and Glowbands
  • Drink Specials Starting at $5.00 until 10PM
  • Mixing Games for All
  • A resident DJ spin'n 70,80 & 90's for us until 10PM then the Club DJs spin the night away as the lights get turned way down
  • Club Lights Going for our amusement and Entertainment
  • Super Fast & Hot Bartenders with 3 of the 6 bars open for us
  • Seats on the dance-floor for us to chill get comfy and get to know other on
  • An Awesome Non-Pretentious Crowd
  • DWS will be sponsoring complementary Pizza early evening
  • In/Out options for DWS wristband holders so you can check out the town, get some yummi food locally and come back in to party the night away

Dressy/Casual/Club Clothing a (+), No Caps/Shorts/Tanks
Remember Non-Pretentious but Neat ;-)

Parking: There is ton's of lots around the club area, plus there is street parking that I was lucky enough to get directly across the street from the club on 5/10, but read the signs carefully. Most of the lots are between $3.00-$10.00 for the night. CarPool if you can. Even better yet, take a limo or a cab. I'd suggest the Metro but I think it doesn't run late. My plan is to try to stay downtown in a hotel or maybe CoucSurf!

Exchange LA is located on South Spring Street between West 6th and West 7th Street. Here you see a HUGE lot behind the club, plus there are many more lots around the area to choose from. I know, heading downtown for us 'Westsiders' seems like a hassle, but the club is located in Central downtown with many new and upcoming business, and well worth the drive or ride down for the party.

On a personal side note (Why I Chose Exchange LA):
Last week I was touring my couchsurfer around Los Angeles on foot, we'd just Expo Line'd it from the new Culver City Station and were heading to the Spring Street Cafe for a drink, and as we were almost there, I passed a doorway, halted, I was awe'd at the interior:

(Yup, above was my view from the doorway)

Mind you this was 4 in the afternoon. The lights were dim inside, but as you looked into this 80 year old building (Built[masked]), it was inviting with neon Purple lit trees) and entrance-way that seemed to go deep into the building and disappear. I walked in, like a curious child, with Nams and my CSer Kim following me, walked to the end and found two old elevators and a stairwell. I wanted to investigate further (a reminder of the 80's when my good friend Dave VW and I used to sneak through pre-way buildingsin New York City, exploring their closed off corridors, vacant rooftop and lonely old grand ballrooms and leftover art) and even though the ladies were reluctant to go further, and I did make my way in deeper.

I found steps and walked up to the second floor, saw a glow of lights, walked around the corner and I was in the middle of what looked like an old bank building, with ceilings so high, dancefloor bars on both sides, a massive screen, and a light frame with the neatest light arrangement along with small foam machines!

Later I was to find out that this was in fact the old Los Angeles Stock Exchange Building and this was the Exchange floor I was standing in after 2 years of remodeling, even though many dollars spend glorifying the venue, it still had its awesomeness of old with is original clocks high above the center of the room and the catwalk encircling the dancefloor. If only the men in the picture below could see this place now...

I remember photos I'd received via email not long ago, yes, this was the same venue I'd been referred to by one of our old time DWS members, Worth Baker and also an email from the LA EXchange event coordinator Anthony.
It was Exchange LA. It was just amazing and I knew I'd found the place for our 5th year Anniversary Party.

I showed up to this event by myself not knowing anyone in attendance and was literally "drinking with strangers." However, that feeling quickly changed and I felt as if I was drinking with old friends. Thank you for a great time!

Very disappointing evening. We were led to believe that once the regular crowd came in at 10, we were going to continue with our party. When it was announced that we had to clear the upstairs room so the staff could remove the chairs, it sounded very fishy. And now we know why. We had to leave because they were going to charge us 20 dollars, to go back upstairs. Not cool.

Good job, as always, Kenway. Had fun - enjoyed the music the DJ played, you got us some great drink prices, and I hear there was good food. Had a class and didn't get out until 6:00p so didn't get downtown to Exchange LA until around 7:30p Thanks, Kenway, for all the hard work in putting on our great meetups!

I had a really good time and met some very nice people. Unfortunately, in typical LA style, most people didn't start arriving till late into it which defeated the purpose the name tag game.

Or consider staying downtown. The Cecil Hotel is only like $50bucks and is right behind the club.

Cab fare will be REALLY expensive from Long Beach. Just take the Blue Line to the Red Line for $3 each way and walk a few blocks from the Metro station. However, you would have to get to the Metro Station Redline by about 11:30pm to catch the last Blue Line train.

    Gee Kenway,
If this venue boot us twice, may be they don't desrve our presence and $$$$$$s that they will make in this event. Easter sunday makes it a little more difficult to enjoy but I will try to make my best.
