Celebrate July 4th, Marina Del Rey Hotel (DWS, No Flakes & Dive Bar Adventure)

Dear Strangers,

See the Updated July 4th Plan at: www.drinkingwithstrangers.net

Remember last year? We posted the DWS July 4th event on July 1st and more than 120 strangers arrived and partied with us from 11AM to about 10PM. Well, we are doing it again; bigger, better and with our friends at No Flakes and Dive Bar Adventures.

Last Years Pictures:

http://nightlife.meet... Well this time the Marina Del Rey Hotel staff contacted Randy and I asking us if we'd like to come back. We ended up touring the place and seeing the changes they had and the space they will give us and food and so fourth. You can see the pictures from our tour last month at the below link:
http://nurseken.com/m... Well we said, "hell yea we wanna come back!" It was really a blast last year, these are some of the people who made it thru all 11 hours or partying and were still standing afterwards?

This year we have much more of the place, literally 2-3 times more space, the band is being moved to a huge area on the outside south side, we have the Waterfront room to ourselves, we've negotiated for 3 bars this time, and the food (for purchase - barbeque's), is being moved to both the pool side and the soth side so we can populate the West Side to watch the fireworks at 9 without obstruction and still have our drinks in hand!

Again we will meet early at the Mexican joint up the block at 11:AM (El Torito), and this time they will be prepared for us. A few of us last year at El Torito?

We are trying to get DWS hotel rates now, and should know by the end of this week? > May 9th. Lastly (for now) there will be a strict RSVP list - The MDR Hotel has room for around 200 people to party in, maybe 300. And since the organizers Randy (No Flakes, Westside Foodies, Etc.) and Chris K (Dive Bar Adventures, Culture Sponges, Etc.) and I have become closer friends over the year we have decided to share in the RSVP Since DWS has >1700 members, and I am only allowing members to sign up from my group, I have removed the guest option. If members want their guests to come, whom are not a part of DWS then they must sign up themselves and RSVP. We have several rooms to lounge aound and meet people like last year?

Suggested Dress for the evening -> Very casual and comfortable.

Parking - Is Free for Drinking with Strangers members until the Hotel lot is full, then either $5 or $7 at a close-by lot.

Fireworks - Randy and some strangers are hanging outside prepping for their spot to watch the fireworks?

Food - My favorite subject, they be a few barbeques going, we will list prices later, but they will be reasonable for DWSers?

The Band - Same as last year, but instead of the little area near the pool they were at last year, The Paul 'Chico' Fernandez band will be playing in the large area on the outside south side of the hotel :-)

Much more info about deals, times, what to bring, parking and carpools to be posted soon. And remember, this is going to be a hardcore mixer, so if you don't like meeting new people, making new friends then this is NOT the party for you?

But if you do like meeting new people (like Eric below) then this is the place for you?

Kenway rocks! The organizers did a good job. I think a dj outside with more active music, as well as games, karaoke, contests, etc. would have been nice given how long the event was. I had the most fun when I went inside to dance. Met a lot of cool people for sure!

OMG this was a great party. I assume 350 people came throughout the 14 hour party because I only had 150 wristbands left out of the 500 I brought, and I banded and talked to a lot of DWSers. We started really early at the hotel, 20 of us parking then walking over to El-Torito and meeting up with another 16 for an awesome lunch waitered by our favorite Mario. Then after getting back around 1 we were greeted by the well staff hotel, setting up sound systems, Chris K's by the pool, Rolando's in the waterfront room, mine in my room and the hotels by the food court. The food served at the hotel was good this year, the pool was nice to swim in, the dancing went on for hours, I met many cool people/friends as we partied the day away, then the 100's of us got to enjoy the fireworks, then back to dancing and finally closing shop about midnight (though the party still was going on in a bunch of rooms I hear as well as the lobby!) Special thanks to Nams, Howard, Katie, Chris, Randy and Rolando.

Lots of people and space and different areas of the hotel so that was great. I loved meeting new people and it was wonderful to see my friend Ara. Wished there were board games, the hotel barbecue food was okay, the pool was small, and the fireworks were kind of far away. Thank you to all the organizers for all your efforts!

Had a great time, meeting new people and soaking up the atmosphere! Better than last year: rolando did a great job spinning the tunes inside, Mr blinkys 80s mix was a pleasure to hear, and Kenny and Randy's hard efforts made this a great success! Well done chaps! Best of British, H.
