Dear Kenway, Jessica & Randy,
Gratitude is truly one of the shortest human emotions! People should be thanking you for all of your hard, unpaid efforts to provide them a good time. At least some of the reviews are thanking you for all of your great efforts while panning the venue.
If you had anything in writing or even multiple witnesses to the “verbal” negotiations you might get the venue to do a FREE/at least cheap “MAKEUP” PARTY on another night. (I had this offered to me at a previous New Years event gone semi-bad. I have to say the free makeup lwent a long way toward removing the bad taste left over from the other under staff New Years event I went to). Maybe there’s some DWF attorney members who could give your some pro-bono legal advice on this?
In any case, I have a nice bottle of Veuve Chequot French Champagne set aside for each of you as your gift/contribution to my next BYO sparkling wine tasting, potluck appetizer event on Friday, January 18th*. You can check it out @
I had a great time at the Halloween party and I hope you will continue to put on more fun events.
Happy New Years & thanks for all of your hard work, Michael
*Since everyone, (except Kenway, Jessica & Randy), is bringing, their own bottle of $20+ bottle of sparkling wine & an appetizer that will serve 20+ people, I doubt we will run have any shortages. We will be asking folks to post their contribution to avoid “quality confusion” qualify for the $2 entry donation & if they don’t we will ask for a much “larger” donation & enter them into the contest for pool toss “winner”.
While the group is called Santa Monica WLA Wine & Poker group, almost everyone/at least 75% of the folks who show up to the larger events just enjoys the wine tasting, socializing and having a good time; (poker is optional). You can just check out the group @ http://wine.meetup.com/461/ . I hope to see you there, Michael

Subject: [nightlife-344] Happy New Year 2008 - Thanks for coming out with us...
If you did not come to the event, Have a Happy New Year, you do not need to ready further, otherwize...
I already see mixed reviews about the party tonight, and before there are any more bad reviews, I want to tell you, we were guaranteed more staff, more accessible alcohol, enough food for the whole night and a band and a DJ. We were not supposed to work the door or do crowd control and we were also guaranteed more space.
Last night at 10:30 PM we found out that they did not get us a band/dj. Randy/Jessica and I scrambled, then dealt with many other things throughout the day. We were still assured they can handle us at the bar.
We (myself/Randy/Jessica) worked hard to make this a good event, but were limited by the empty guarantees of the establishment. Jessica and I were the ones that ordered the late night pizza, I was the one trying to get the champagne out on time and we were the ones helping people.
Please consider the above when rating the party, and tell me if you can find any other party in LA charging so little for entry/dj/food and alcohol.
Lastly, we did not do this for profit, we did not make money off of this, we only do these meetup events for fun.
Please give positive ratings and comments at:
Have a Happy New Year :-)
