So on vacation I got my drone through airline security just fine.... What was not fine was me backing up off a dock while the drone was in the air over the lake. Yes, I fell off (actually stradled the plank that leads to the dock). Of course I held up my arm to save the transmitter so I fell hard and yup, the transmitter fell in the lake anyway. Did you know the Phantom 2 transmitter floats? For a while, anyway. My husband fished it out and I was able to land "Little Pink" just fine. So now I have pink prop protectors and a purple butt!

Chance: I understand you're the guy to talk to about arranging a class for people interested in building their own quad. Are you planning another class anytime soon? Thanks!

Lipo WH calculations - Great Conversations! Thanks for sharing so much info everyone!

A couple of us were chatting about lipo calcs, since the size limit for airline carry-on is <100 WH per battery. WH = Watt Hours and is calculated by multiplying the Volts x Ampere Hours. So a 4500 mAh 14.8v batt = 66.6WH

Here is a calculator guide from FedEx for shipping Lipos:

    Hope that helps!

Thanks Vince. I calculated my phantom is 57.72 so I'm OK. I also bought a lipo bag yesterday. I think my biggest fear is flying it into the lake! :) Good seeing everyone last night.

Hi folks, I am traveling to NY and am wondering if any of you have taken your drone on a plane. Any problems I should be aware of? Will my extra camera batteries be ok do you think?

    Alos, GOT FPV! So excited!

I put my Lipos in a bag, in my carry-on

Many airlines x-ray your checked luggage. The lipos will be removed if they are found, since they are not allowed in the hull... I travel with my quad a couple times a month and have always put my lipo bag separately in a bin for the carry-on scanner. Some airports will do the swipe test of the lipo bag, but the TSA always thanks me for removing the lipo bag from my carry-on... more than once I have had a chat with the TSA asking if they could see my quad, because it looks "so cool"...

I got myself a nano after the June meeting and am learning to fly it now. I'm interested in learning more about building a quad soon...
