Whether it is an initial connection , a reconnection or an ongoing connection with trees, nature, the environment and a community of people that care about it all. Come and learn how to be a part of a global initiative. This day hopes to help our communitybecome stewards for the trees by: building positive connections for the trees, building positive practices of how to sustain trees, building positive role models that encourage all people to maintain the health of our trees, our planet and ultimately each other.
Million Women Drummers Initiative
Our drumming connection to trees is being established so that we take care of and honor what so many of our drums are made of - trees. Our goal is to support organizations, events and activities that strive to sustain trees with the music that wood instruments play.
This Public Event is the culmination of a two year initiative, started in 2011, by Ubaka Hill, a nationally known female drummer. Ubaka put a call out to her sister drummers to "join forces with other environmental and worldhealth organizations to provide a world that sustains trees. Trees provide us with what we love "drums" and the music drums and other wood instruments make." Our intention is to create a mindful model for a sustainable future for drums, wooden musical instruments and the music they provide. We, as A Million Women, together with our family and friends, will be drumming to awaken the need to sustain trees and will be helping to plant a Million trees.
At our event we will be united with Ubaka Hill and her Gathering, through skype, to encourage connectionswith the energy and celebrations happening nationally and globally.
"Yes, buy a drum, plant a tree, oh how simple it can be, when we listen to our heart, and with our drum sound out our part." written by local drummer Donna Loney
