I know, it's not in Edmonton... but I thought some of you might like to know that a handful of Edmonton drummers are heading to the Seattle Drum Festival, April 12-14. The FREE three-day festival, held at the Seattle Center, will feature over 100 drum performances, and drum and dance workshops.
The festival culminates with a drum circle lead by Arthur Hull, an internationally renowned percussionist who designs drums for Remo and is viewed by many as the person who first conceived of facilitated drum circles.
It's the festival's grassroots history and volunteer character that makes it one of the the most unique and vibrant Rhythm Festivals in the world. This is a festival produced by drummers and dancers for drummers and dancers, for the love of the music.
A lot of information is already up on the festival website (http://www.swps.org/), and the full schedule will be available to view shortly.
So... if you're looking for a fun weekend of drumming, you might want to check this festival out!
The Edmonton drummers who have already signed-up to go have chosen to fly with Alaska Airlines, which flys directly from Edmonton to Seattle. The flight costs about $375 (including tax) if you book soon. The festival website has information about lodging.
It would be great to see even more Edmonton drummers there!
