Bodhran drumming: an introduction (Feb 2014)

Metro Continuing Education is offering a bodhran course starting February 2014. The bodhran holds the heartbeat of celtic music. Explore the history of the bodhran and its place in celtic music while learning to play this ancient instrument. Learn methods of holding and striking, and placing different pressure on the drum skin for variations in tone while learning basic reel and jig patterns, creating rolls (or triplets). You will play along with recorded and live music and by the end of the course will be happily able to accompany songs on your own. Please bring your own bodhran drum.

(Notes from Josie: I performed in the Edmonton Bodhran Ensemble with Bruce Ziff who is teaching this course - he's fabulously talented! Long & McQuade has drum rentals and might be able to rent you a bodhran. L & M also sells bodhrans.)
