Drum/Dance at Yoga Shala (N. Williams)

Greetings movers, shakers 'n all ye rhythm-makers!

Bring your drum
And your restless feet
As one we become
Hearts shall open and meet

Tap your fingers
And sway to the beat
As the rhythm rises and lingers
Together we feel more complete

Come alone or bring your friends. You don't have to be a drummer to come; come just to watch or listen. And if you're a drummer, all skill levels are welcome. And feel free to bring other acoustic instruments -- didjridoo, flute, guitar, harmonica, whatever.

Microphones and PA will be available for people who would like to sing or for use with other soft instruments.  We will also have a few 'Toyboxes' full of other percussive noise-toys and some extra drums for sharing.  If you have extra instruments to share, please bring them.

As for dancing, you DO NOT need to be a trained dancer (although we do have those from time to time) to get up and move to the beat. As long as YOU are having fun dancing, anything goes.

It's great to see the drummers, didj players, and dancers all playing off of each other.

Don't be a spectator, PARTICIPATE. YOU are the show!

KIDS ARE MOST WELCOME!!

Please support our use of Yogashala space with a suggested donation of $2.00.

Note: Flash cameras/pro-photography are allowed in the last half hour of the drum/dance only. All other cameras are permitted.

Took right off on a LONG large group of free drumming in a circle with dancers twirling in the energy. Ahhh and a native flute ending, it was Wow…Thank you all!

Hey everybody! I am REALLY looking forward to the next circle on the 13th, because I'll be hosting it! I've got some West African rhythms in mind, and I hope you're going to LOVE IT!!! I will bring some extra drums and shakers, so just bring your beautiful self. :-)

Awesome. It was great having the structured round to learn new rhythms as well as the spontaneous free-for-all. And the final meditative flute and drum was glorious.

I don't think I'll be able to make it to this one. When is the next one, and how likely would it be that there will always be spare drums?

    April 12, 2013

    • Doug P.

Andriana, sorry you can't make the jam. There is always a drum or other rhythm instrument available for borrowing. Don't let the lack of an instrument prevent you from attending.

This is shaping up to be a great session! Glad to see you all RSVP'd. If anyone is curious to know what rhythms I plan to share, email me. And if anyone has anything they'd like to share, we definitely have space for that. Didgeridoo jam?
