Drum/Dance at Yoga Shala (N. Williams)

Greetings movers, shakers 'n all ye rhythm-makers!

Bring your drum
And your restless feet
As one we become
Hearts shall open and meet

Tap your fingers
And sway to the beat
As the rhythm rises and lingers
Together we feel more complete

Come alone or bring your friends. You don't have to be a drummer to come; come just to watch or listen. And if you're a drummer, all skill levels are welcome. And feel free to bring other acoustic instruments -- didjridoo, flute, guitar, harmonica, whatever.

Microphones and PA will be available for people who would like to sing or for use with other soft instruments. We will also have a few 'Toyboxes' full of other percussive noise-toys and some extra drums for sharing. If you have extra instruments to share, please bring them.

As for dancing, you DO NOT need to be a trained dancer (although we do have those from time to time) to get up and move to the beat. As long as YOU are having fun dancing, anything goes.

It's great to see the drummers, didj players, and dancers all playing off of each other.

Don't be a spectator, PARTICIPATE. YOU are the show!

KIDS ARE MOST WELCOME!!

(Please support our use of Yogashala space with a suggested donation of $2.00)

Love and Light,

~ Doug (Sage, Becca, Susan, Jeff, Dave and Eric)

Hi, I am sorry I missed this event. I am brand new to the meetup community. I am thinking of organizing a women's drum/music session on the 29th of December if there is enough interest. If any of you ladies want to play please let me know. If there two or three of us interested I will host a gathering. So glad that this group is out there.

Is this still happening? Looks like I'M the only interested?

      December 29, 2012

    • Shero L.

No, I did not get enough response and then some friends showed up unexpectedly. I would like to organize something though. I am nea to this and I am not sure how to post a new meetup opportunity. Do you know how?

sometimes structure is good and sometimes....well sometimes, people just need to let go and be playful and that's what happened tonight and it would seem like most of us had a great time just being free to express ourselves....thanks for the opportunity...Sincerely Kyler

Thank you for your honest feedback, Kyler. As you can see, we're still trying to figure out this whole "structure" thing. You know we've "got it" when we find that fine balance between "firm" and "flexible." Not too rigid, not too loose; just right. Your candid feedback is precisely the kind of stuff that'll get us there. Cheers!

Sage, I think you know how I feel. I'm for as little structure as possible without the need for introductions. Those who have a rhythm they'd like to share just start playing it during a lull. If it's a good rhythm others will pick it up. I like more drumming, dancing and vocalizations with less talking.

That room size was great for large group and sound. The mats, blankets, and cushions added -comfort for sitting. For a new comer to Portland, was a little hard to find in the dark-just followed the drums

I've notified the owners. We are welcome to drum and dance at the Kava house as long we keep it low-key and chill. So thanks Eric... and join the fun!
