Responsive/mobile case studies

Heather Gaye will present a case study of the mobile/responsive implementation of Olympic.org.nz.

Webscope and Katie Graham will present a case study of a tool they built and it's front-end & tablet implementation.

There will probably be a small charge to cover costs and get Sal's pizza again, TBD. Sponsors welcome!

We will start at 7pm.

We will probably go to the Brewery Britomart afterwards, around 9pm.

    Hi guys,

    Just posting a useful blog post to help anyone who's interested in exploring the Ctools api for multistep forms further: http://preprocess.me/multi-steps-form-in-drupal-7-with-ctools .

    Also I mentioned https://www.toggl.com for timing. We love it.

    Cheers
    Sam

      For anyone who is interested or is looking for a toggle alternative, we use Billings.

      Billings work great for us as it handles time tacking, invoicing, recurring invoicing and account statements. It come 3 flavours:
      1. Billings Pro Stand-one (multi user)
      2. Billings Pro Cloud (multi user)
      3. Billings (single user)

      More information about these products can be found here http://www.marketcirc...

    I have added a fee of $10 to this meetup. This is to cover costs of Pizza, which we will order and share. Feel free to bring drinks.

    IMPORTANT: If you are not attending, please update your RSVP so that we don't get too much pizza! Thank you.

    IMPORTANT: Bring $10 cash on the night—no IOUs.

      Speaking as a walking cashless society, I think the PP thing is very good

    Hey folks, here are a couple of links about media queries that I found super-helpful when I was working on olympic.org.nz. This one is just a straightforward tutorial that helped me grok media queries. http://css-tricks.com/css-media-queries/

    This one has results for different devices/browsers loading hidden images - it's a pretty helpful list of the different ways you can choose to display them. http://timkadlec.com/2012/04/media-query-asset-downloading-results/

    Here's some stuff we're still investigating: This is a description of the "mobile-first" approach that I *wish* we'd been able to follow! http://stuffandnonsense.co.uk/projects/320andup/

    ...& this is the new responsive grid model we're currently investigating. http://lessframework.com/

    Contrib modules for responsive/adaptive handling of images are still pretty immature, but here's a decent search result for Drupal 7. http://drupalmodules.com/search/node/responsive+image+category%3A41

    Cheers!

      You presented pretty well for someone who dose'nt like presenting to thousands of people - good job, great work.

      Thanks! I had a lot of help from Ben McNicoll, and a couple of beers.

    Great meeting. Good to hear Sam talk about when not to go the Drupal way (simple PDF generation) and talking about spec documentation and the early procedures. Loved Heather's run-down and sharing the mobile-first development process - impressive hacking abilities under pressure! Pizza was good.

    For transparency
    * I counted 21 attendees (including me) at end of 1st session.
    * I got $10 each from 17 people.
    * I didn't collect from 4 organisers (including me) that contributed in other ways.
    * Pizza cost $120.
    * Shared beer cost $20.
    * That leaves $30 cash for the next meetup.

    If we do pizza again we should charge online via meetup.com & PayPal. It will be less than NZD 10, but in AUD or USD (because meetup.com does not support NZD). This saves the hassles of collecting, small change and receipts.

    I will create a PayPal account, give access to a couple of other organisers and transfer $30 into it when the next meetup is on meetup.com.

    Do we want to do pizza in the break? Something else? Nothing? Please vote here: http://www.meetup.com/drupalnz/polls/665542/

    I will post topics to vote on for January's meetup _after_ DrupalCamp in November, so as not to distract from that. Get involved here: http://www.meetup.com/drupalnz/
