12 Doctor discussion...

I just want to jump in here and wear moderator hat for just one moment. I have not filtered any messages during the Matt Smith leaving thread because I want the discourse to be fun and open. I think American fans have a tendency to over-canonize based on our affinity for serial storytelling and saga-based consumption of media. Let's make sure that we remember two things. Dr. Who is not explicitly a children's show, it is written for kids to enjoy. Secondly, the show is at it's core about adventures that can take you anywhere and anywhen, and smart show runners don't let this fact get compromised by bogged down continuity. This is what happened and IMO is still happening to properties like Star Trek and Star Wars as they age and resurface. Even producers of Dr Who in the 80s said they only looked at the previous four or five years for continuity blaze markers. So I'm not saying you can't debate continuity here, it's fun! Just don't let it suck all the fun and anticipation for the new casting announcements (or lack of) and upcoming specials. Cheers. P.s. I've removed message approvals for now so you can freely discuss the topics on the mailing list, just remember what I asked :). Thanks!
