We're pleased to have Giuseppe Maxia, MySQL Community Team Lead at Sun Microsystems, speak with us at this very special FREE event, hosted at Sun Microsystem's offices.

Boosting performance with partitions in MySQL 5.1 and 5.5

Partitions divide up large data sets to increase performance and minimize disk and other bottlenecks. In this talk, Giuseppe will look at the general concepts around partitioning, how they apply to MySQL, and how to utilize these valuable features in MySQL 5.1 and MySQL 5.4 for improving performance and scalability.

Giuseppe Maxia, a.k.a. The Data Charmer.

I am the MySQL Community Team Lead at Sun Microsystems. I am active member of the MySQL community and long timer open source enthusiast. During the past 23 years I have worked in various IT related fields, with focus on databases, object oriented programming, system administration. Fluent in Italian, English, Perl, SQL, Lua, C, Bash, and good speaker of C++, French, Spanish, Java. I work in cyberspace, with a virtual team.

This meeting is in cooperation with Dubai PHP.

Dubai MySQL is here to help build and support the technical communities in Dubai and we look forward to working with other groups in the area.

If you have work to be done, or you are looking for work, this is a great chance to meet and network with others in Dubai and become a part of the community.

We're also looking for future presentations and co-organizers - it's not a lot of work and a great way to get visibility, get involved and meet others.

Giuseppe obviously knew the subject matter VERY well - The presentation on performance enhancement through partitions was clear, concise and the benefit's of attending were obvious, in so much as applying partitioning in a large MySQL environment.
Pity turn-out wasn't so good - Sad to see so few serious MySQL admin's ...
