Late Summer Trip to Alghero-Sardinia

  • September 20, 2012 · 5:00 PM

Hi all travel adventurers,

To get away for a warm sunny late summer week long break or a long weekend I have selected Alghero in northwest the Italian mediterranean island of Sardinia.

Located on the north west coast of Sardinia, holidays to Alghero have become increasingly popular in recent years, yet the city still retains its distinctive Catalan character. This derives from the influence of Pedro IV of Aragon who seized control of the town in the mid-fourteenth century and embarked on an intense period of colonization from Spain.

Today, Alghero manages to combine its role of tourist city with that of a thriving marina. This enables it to maintain a year round economy outside of the busy summer months. To the north of the marina is the fine sandy which provides good bathing opportunities just a short stroll from the historic centre.

  • Flights with Ryanair depart directly Thursday from Dublin at 09:15 arrive 13:10
  • 3 Nights in Alghero (via Booking.com) should cost around 30 euro per night x 3 nts.
  • A few excursions are availble such as Grotta Di Nettuna, visit to Bosa or Sessari and a boat trip if enough are interested takes place on Saturday.
  • A few group lunches and dinners can be arranged once we are there.
  • Flight back on Sunday or Thursday leaves 11:00 arrives Dublin 13:00

Note: You have until 31st July to let me know that Flights and hotels are booked or you would come off the group list going, as we want to keep it to about 20.

If not interested no need to rsvp.

Hi All, I missed to get together on Friday evening. Are there any arrangements to meet up at the airport or is it just make our way to the departure lounge?
    Geraldine

    September 18

    • Kim

No need to be waiting for people, if you have a printed boarding for Ryan air then proceed to your gate in the departure lounge and will meet there.

    Hi all,

It was great to meet some of you on Friday. Unfortunately I won't be going until Sunday but can't wait for the trip now.

Is anyone else going on Sunday the 23rd? If so, fancy meeting up in the airport (or maybe sharing a taxi to the airport if we're coming from the same area)?

    Cu soon,
    Tessa

I and some are staying a week, others may just do the long weekend and leave Sunday. Another idea is leave sunday and come back thursday but stay in Stintino.

vow Kim, Stintino...very posh place for VIP, you will be in the middle of the Costa Smeralda!! No luck yet with those timetables, they moved the tourist office in Cagliari, I will try somewhere else.. By the way Alghero- Sassari is only 10 minutes on the bus. Very hot In Cagliari in Sardinia at the minute! Talk soon
