— Boone on Dec 9, 2010.
“ The group was well organized and shared a lot of information with us first timers. I felt that everyone was patient with those of us who had a lot of questions as we struggled to understand the concept. The passion of the group is obvious and I saw so many genuine acts of kindness towards strangers. I was exhausted when I got home but was envigorated as I proudly inspected each item, cleaned it off and stored it away. I will certainly continue to participate in meetups. Thanks for the experience. ”

“ If you want exercise, hanging around with like-minded people (and want to get food without having to pay for it), this is a good venture for you. Being able to meet people in an informal setting at freegan feasts is a bonus, too. ”

— Janet on Jul 18, 2009.
“ Eye opening, to say the least. Go out on a few Trash Tours with these folks and you'll never feel the same walking in to any supermarket in the world. It's truly grotesque to see how much is wasted, every day. On a lighter side, the people I've met and continue meeting are very cool. They're world-changers, and I'm glad to be a part of them. ”
— Michael Kim Jamal R. on Jan 25, 2007.
“ I still hope to give this a try, I actually lucked into some free food in Manhattan and in the Bronx, last spring an upscale grocery store in the upper West side was tossing about 15# of VERY slightly bruised apples and pears (I loaded up my bag and gave some to subway patrons who said they were hungry, and took the rest home), and just 2 days ago I saw 4 closed packs of organic salad mix and eight apples, 3 onions, 2 potatoes, some zucchini, and organic cucumbers, were just THERE, by a hydrant at midnight...waste not, want not I believe! ”

“ New participants are often amazed at what retailers throwing out here in NYC. Freegan.info has also expanded way beyond dumpster diving. We regularly share skills on wild plant foraging, bike repair, sewing and other ways to live outside the ecologically destructive and unjust "buy and toss" system. We also organize forums, book groups and movie nights on ecology and social change. ”
— Madeline on Nov 14, 2010.
“ Overall the group was great, but there was one individual, a veteran of Freegan, who was quite nasty. I mentioned it to the facilitator of this meeting and was told something along the lines of, 'oh yeah, she can be cranky, difficult, etc.,' but that thinking only condoned this person's behavior. I asked this individual to pass me something from the trash tour and she said 'reach for it yourself, I can't give it to you.' Even thinking about it now makes me angry because I have a locked shoulder and I COULDN'T REACH FOR IT and she WAS RIGHT NEXT TO IT and could have handed it to me easily. I ended up having to reach for it anyway. This wasn't the only display of her nasty behavior, just the one that stood out the most and if I see this individual at any Freegan event in the future and she makes the mistake of treating me the same way again, she is going to suffer the consequences because I am going to make it VERY CLEAR that I will NOT tolerate such behavior. ”
