Educational: Pronunciation practice-Uitspraak oefenen 2.0

  • Mar 25, 2014 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Everybody goes on the waiting list and from there will be put on the RSVP list until we have about 35-40 people. (This is done to filter out list-blockers and NO SHOW-ers)

Keep checking your status until the 4.30pm deadline on meetup day as you could still get put on the RSVP list. People often drop out at the last minute.

A small voluntary contribution €1 is asked to cover organising costs. Bring small change please.

Theme: This evening we are going to learn how to pronounce those difficult Dutch sounds. Practice words that contain aa-ee-oo-uu-ij-ei-au-ou-sch-g-ch-eur-uur-ui

Come along and have some fun practising your Dutch with other ex-pats.

No Vampires allowed in!

Get to know new people.

Learn more daily Dutch with the help of "Native speakers".

(Nederlanders  "Native Speakers" zijn van harte welkom om te helpen)

Bring a pen and paper, small change, good humour, and of course yourself.

Please be considerate to other members on the waiting list who also wish to attend by undoing your RSVP if you can't make it.

Deadline 4.30 pm meetup day. Thanks and see you soon.

Suggestion: instead of 80 examples of each sound, have 40 so that we can get the chance to practise all of the sounds. Some were easier than others and Ben the harder ones could be "done" in less time.

no idea what 'Ben the harder ones' was originally!

probably "then the harder ones could be done in less time." It was fine, but it would have been good to get through all the sounds - maybe if the harder lists were shorter. But just micro-optimization :)

The meetup was completely full and we had a lot of words to work through. The tempo was a little high for some though. We will repeat this meetup but at a more leisurely pace in the near future.

NO SHOWS and the waiting list:
There were still 15 on the waiting list when the 4.30 deadline closed. Sorry that I had to turn people away who just turned up without a RSVP place but it's only fair to the others still waiting.
The 3 people who NO SHOW'd will stay on the waiting list next time they RSVP. Please think of others and undo your RSVP in time. It takes only 30 seconds and gives another your spot!!

Native Speakers: Thanks to them we had a great meetup and also welcome to our new NS's Sander + Jasper (in groen)
Tip: if you appreciate their efforts then the table they help could maybe buy them a drink.

Next meetup from me will be on Wednesday 2 April.
Will be posted soon so be quick to sign up.
    Thanks Dave

      Hi everybody,
I had fun yesterday! Thanks to my group for their efforts! Yes the pace was high but I think we can work with the word sheets as they are; too much to cover in the 15 minutes however it did allow me to make a selection myself and give people words based on their level. I think that worked well for my table last night. So thanks for the words Dave and see you all soon! Tot snel!

This is evening was a really good one. Learnt a lot, had brilliant buddies at the table and Jasper and Dave did the best, to introduce us to the mighty world of propper Dutch pronounciation. Thanks a million.
The venue was a bit to crowded so. Maybe the number of participants at that location should be reduced to 30 due to space. Just a suggestion.

RSVP update: For tomorrows lesson we need to know that everyone on the RSVP list is coming. The logistics of giving this lesson demand this. Updo your RSVP NOW if you are not coming. NO SHOWS are not allowed as this will stop others from attending.
Tip: drink some honey to smooth your throat, you will be getting a vocal workout. Daaaaaggggg.
