Peak with a view ** Amabalis or Catherine

I'll be under the overpass at Eastgate- prefer being ready to leave there within minutes of 8am. Call or text me (preferred) if you'll be late or have questions. 206-2two8-nine-six-1-four

Looks fabulous out on Monday.

Good conditioning required so we can get out and back again in reasonable amount of time.

We'll go to either Amabalis or Catherine in the Snoqualmie Pass area, around 2,000 foot gain total. I'll bring maps/compass for navigation and welcome a GPS for nav backup if you have a GPS.

If we decide we are up for a longer drive, or if the weather is not sunny at the pass, we may continue on to Diamond Head.

Bring:

your 11 essentials system (reiteration of some is below)

Extra warm clothes for when we stop at the top and rain-gear/waterproof clothing. Quality gloves/mittens and a spare.

For traction: snowshoes and microspikes, poles and/or ice axe- we won't be going anywhere steep. Make sure you can strap your snowshoes on your pack in the event they don't work well on the snow we end up in.

Food to eat along the way and extra for an emergency

SUNGLASSES and sunscreen- should be sunny out.

BRIGHT SHINY SMILE and good attitude

and $ for the driver- $.50 per mile divided by all those on the trip

No dinner planned for afterwards, so bring a snack for the way home to tide you over until after our return

My topo map program with the draw-route tool indicates that we went 5.3 miles each way (this is the average of 3 attempts at drawing the route with my trackpad)

Nice to get out of the fog for a clear sunny day. We went to Amabilis Mountain, which is nothing spectacular, but the views were lovely from the summit and excellent company made the day move by smashingly. :)

Is this a snowshoe trip? I don't have an ice ax. Where are you going and how far?

Yes, you will probably need snowshoes, although that depends on the exact snow conditions. It won't be steep this time, so poles are OK. I have updated with the info above. Should be 2,000 approx gain, snoqualmie pass area.

Some easy options: http://www.summitpost.org/amabilis-mountain/523392,, http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/mount-catherine, Diamond-head. All relatively easy with under 2,000 gain overall and with the exception of Diamond Head, a short drive.

Are you thinking snow shoes and ice axes? I have a sno park pass and an suv.
