Tracy, use 250g MAGNESIUM once/week for long term remedy of cramps. For immediate potential fix, eat MUSTARD, they do that in sports: http://www.health911.com/cramps...)

Mustard For years coaches have given mustard to their athletes with leg cramps. Cramps are sometimes caused by a deficiency in acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that stimulates your muscles to work. Mustard has acetic acid, which helps the body make more acetylcholine. Take a spoonful or two of mustard.

This was really a great group!! Thanks All for letting me step in when Ashwin couldn't make it. We had a very long hike in slush, but everyone stayed together and upbeat. Thanks for being patient and remaining positive when one member was having difficulty. The weather even cooperated for us, holding off the rain until the last mile or so.

Folks, I am borderline sick - it was a surprise since I was fine until yesterday night. Might have caught something on the trip to SFO this week. Lance will Lead this Hike - I know him - he has lead many hikes in Peaks.

There are potentially two ways to get up Baldy... see Pages Routes. Forests could be steep....

    February 28, 2013

    • Ashwin

I took the route from the Pages Routes - both routes seem to be the same?. The 3rd one is a round trip - too long.

      February 28, 2013

    • Eva W.

This route looks like the way we went in the spring. I thought there was a more direct route in the winter.

Let's go to Mount Baldy for now. I will check weather again tomorrow - the forecasts have not settled.

It's looking unlikely that this will be a good idea for me this weekend. :( But, going to bow out to give someone else the opportunity since there's a wait list.

I won't recommend anything on this topic, but I can share information on what I use - I use a chest harness with a band around the chest.

I bought a chest harness that did not have a band, and then improvised one using a flat kind of climbing rope with a buckle. It would be better to buy one that already has a band around chest. I found out the hard way :-) that without the band the carabiner hits the face when the rope is suddenly pulled tight.
