A Peak with a View: *** Sunday! NorthPeak or Blewet Area

[masked] somewhere 6 miles: Waitlist, I'll draw you in

Weather Permitting! CAR CONTRIBUTIONS: 50c/mile

Bring Snowshoes & Crampons!!

I will be slow, so don't expect a race, haven't hiked for a while!

If you ware willing to drive (in snow if needed) and have a 4x4 (for some trailheads)

Waitlist, I'll pull you in if you fit for the team and mountain:

Need a couple of experienced scramblers and trailbreakers, and 1-2 strong beginners are ok too, but you have to have the equipment, or ask Val for extras.

Weather:(Right Click, open new Tab or Window)

http://www.epeaks.com/epeaks/weather.htm

NOTE-1: You need to stay together, as a team or not go with us! Turning around only splits the group, usually not a good idea. Trips last sometimes 13+ hours! We don't hurry, have lunch, take care of each other and play it calm and safe.

NOTE-2: Val doesn't have a set turn-around time. If we are close to the summit, and everybody is up for it, we go on, even if we have to come down in the dark with headlamps. And... should it really happen, we are equipped (right? Warm stuff...!) for a bivi as well. IF this bothers you, DO NOT GO on an advanced trip.

NOTE-3: BAG-CHECK: Got to have Alpine Scrambling Equipment: 2x 18ft 5mm prusik cords, 1 locking carabiner, Ice-Axe, SnowShoes, Tracktion Device, Ski-Poles with Snow Plates, Headlamp, Extra Warm Cloth - packed water tight, Full Zipper Rain Pants, Rain Jacket, Gloves, Extra Water-Tight Mittens, Water-Tight Winter Mountaineiring Boots, Gaitors, Dry Socks, Ziplockbags etc.. After a rainstorm, you need to be able to put an dry cloth. Sometimes Crampons!

10 Essentials:http://www.firstemall.com/epeaks/

Note 4: We will carry a rope just in case, but do not regularily use it. However, if you feel unsafe, ASK FOR BEING ROPED UP! Regardless, if Val ropes up, you will also have to rope up. If you don't like this, don't go!

NOTE-5: Winter hikes and snowshoes often deal with unforecasted conditions. Have equipment with you do deal with it!

NOTE-6: Don't just text, CALL people if your RSVP changes on short notice, of if you are late.

Something new: a black forest landscape surrounded by white. Val and I kept breaking through the crust into powder below, frustrating our progress. Great views from the ridge line, and great company as always. I think going East to Blewet proved to be a good choice regarding the weatehr too, many of us can back a little red in our cheeks.

What a beautiful day and fun hike. Thanks, Val, for another perfectly orchestrated trip!

The trip started with terrible deep crusty snow, in which heavier Turtles broke through. After what seemed liked a long time, we reached the beautiful windy ridge and contined that for a while. Nice descent on soft sand. Nice but long trip over mostly new routes and a wonderful team to be with on this suny day and views from the top! Thanks guys & gals to drag me over the top!

What a great hike!! So much to see - the "black forest", cool rock formations, beautiful colorful trees, blue sky and the surrounding peaks. Super fun group too. We had a wonderful day - thank you Val for organizing and thank you Lance for driving!!
