Changed to Guye peak since weather might not be as clear at Baker.

    1. This is not a technical climb, but a physically demanding hike and scramble

Our typical hikes are around 8-10 miles round trip,[masked] feet elevation gain, and mixed terrain scramble to a peak.

    2. What to Bring

    Crampons - required
Traction device (e.g. microspikes) - required
    Snowshoes - required
    Ice Axe - required
    Gaiters - required
    Headlamps - required
    Gloves (incl.spare) - required
Chest Harness - recommended - we can build it using a rope, but buy it for ease of use/safety. It is not expensive.
Winter mountaineering boots - required. This is a alpine scramble, and hence be ready for mixed terrain including snow travel.
    Hydration and food - required
    10 Essentials - required

It is winter time - make sure you are prepared to be outdoors for a long time, or, sometimes even overnight in an emergency.

For a full list of equipment: see http://www.firstemall.com/epeaks/

    keep full day free

    4. Slow Hiking speedI go at a  very slow pace. If u are faster, u have to slow down or carry more weight.
    5. Carry cash for carpool the group charge $0.50 per mile divided to each occupant.

    6. Weather Permitting Destination may change at last minute due to weather or other situations.

    February 8, 2013

  • Ashwin

Folks, changing to GuyE peak and we meet at 7AM@East gate since GuyE is closeby.

Tom, can u confirm u got the message? Eva knows.

Sorry for the last minute changes, but weather might not be as clear at Baker - there is fog and cloud combination and if it is high, we would not see the beauty after a long drive

    • Thomas M.

got it. thats a bummer, i have done Guye before. well lets hope for good weather!

      February 8, 2013

  • Val

I somehow don't believe the weather forecast, check the cloud cover and satillite picture tomorrow morning before you leave.... it's not worth to drive that far unless it is sunny

    February 8, 2013

    • Ashwin

yes - if it is in doubt, we go guye peak

      February 8, 2013

    • Ashwin

I am checking the weather, and it is indeed complicated.. some places claim partly sun, but the level of clouds is not clear .. there is also fog coming in and going at places

this hike looks a little easier than the one we originally planned. could i bring my dog?

    February 8, 2013

    • Cathy

If your dog can self arrest with an ice axe and be willing to get roped up. You will need to build a chest harness for the dogX. The dog is a 3 star dog turtle :-)))

    February 8, 2013

  • Ashwin

Unfortunately, no dog pls - it not a hike up the thumb - it is steep. Decided not to go to Snoqualmie since it might be too steep for team. This one should be doable.

i just looked up what i think we are doing on the WTA and it looks like more of a snow shoe, maybe im wrong though

    February 8, 2013

  • Eva W.

I am thinking if we have to rope up that a dog would not be a good idea but Ashwin knows best.
