Nice meeting you Amy! Did you take any pics? I failed and didn't get any :(

      January 28, 2013

    • Amy

I did, but very few, probably the fewest from a trip (shocking). I will upload them tonight.

No sickness on my end! Feel better John!

Anyone else feeling kind of terrible? I'm thinking I may have gotten food poisoning from Round Table. Probably potato or mac salad on the salad bar. Ugh.

Other than this, it was a great day!

Bummer John. I hope you feel better soon. So Nicky "took you all out" to "Round Table" huh? HMMMMM. And food poisoning....this reminds me of a conversation from Arrowhead...

Yikes! I didn't get sick from the salad, but that was all I had. I hope you get better soon, John. Eva, we were supposed to go to Red Robin, but the rest of the guys wanted to go to Round Table, lol...

Trending avalanche conditions are worsening, and only supposed to increase. I'm not familiar with this loop, is there alot of exposed terrain? Also, the weather doesn't look like its going to provide views....

Hey Lincoln - Today (Saturday) I was up Union and was able to avoid open avy slopes, sticking in trees and ridgelings, But so was the group that went up McCausland, or so they reported at the TH. :)

      January 26, 2013

    • John T.

McCausland isn't the issue; there is a route that completely avoids avalanche terrain. It's Lichtenberg that could be a problem if we aren't able to take the NE ridge all the way to the top and have to traverse to the southern ridge. Thanks for the report, though!

Anyone passing through the Capitol Hill area willing to carpool? I'm happy to pay for gas.

I can swing by and pick you up at 6:15am.

      Thanks, Nick!

Nice group! Practive avalanche avoidance, don't ask if it is safe, AVOID such slopes all togther and you can go anywhere. Choose your route and peak, so you won't have to guess the risk. Guessing the risk or relying on the NWAC is a very bad thing and leads to DEATH. Slow and steady does it and stay together

I have no problem with it. This is my conditioning for Rainier and I've been doing 4000 feet elevation every weekend for the past several weeks. Longer distance just makes that kind of elevation gain easier in my book. Not sure about the rest of the group. Look forward to getting the summit and having fun above all else!

I will edit the trip posting as a loop hike either tonight or tomorrow night. Should be a fun adventure.

So, if we did the Valhalla/McCausland/Lichtenberg Mtn loop stats: 10.7 miles, right? 3953 ft elevation gain. I think that would be fun since McCausland alone looks like not enough of a workout for a whole saturday :)

What I intended to say was: Since we changed plans it doesn't show up as McCausland.

I just found the email. It went to my junk mail folder. Thanks for sending. I may consider doing a loop hike depending on the group. That would be little more advance.

Should be in your email. Did you get it?

    January 14, 2013

  • Nick

Was that a loop route? Do you still have the GPX track or route you took that you can send me? Lichtenberg and McCausland in the same day would be awesome.

Now you know the way! I would love to go but already have plans that day to go with some friends to Lichenwasser Lake. If these cancel, I'll try to get on your snowshoe. Thanks for organizing!
