We had no safety issues to report on this trip. Team did a great job!
I do have some suggestions for organizers interested in setting up winter trips to Mt St Helens.
On sunny days expect LOTS of company. Because the drive is so long, you probably want to include an overnight. You can camp in the Marble Mountain parking lot area, and if you do, I highly recommend asking your team to bring earplugs and eye shields as there were plenty of rude/noisy folks in the parking lot ALL NIGHT LONG!
Another option is to leave a bit earlier in the day and hike a mile or two in to camp the night before your summit bid. Before the treeline and just beyond (before you start the significant elevation gain) are several good options for campsites. It should be much quieter there, and more scenic. It could be nice to summit early, return to camp for a nap and then pack up/hike out.
Highly recommend 3 liters for the minimum water/fluids for each person. 4 liters probably better for most to avoid running out.
Thanks for reading this.
