Join us for a 2-hour adventure through Berkeley's parks and staircases. We'll go at a leisurely pace, but be prepared to sweat -the hike is steep with several back-to-back staircases.
If you haven't been at one of the urban hikes before, expect to be impressed. The East Bay Hills are crisscrossed by many pedestrian-only paths. They offer great views of the Bay and of people's backyards, decks, and gardens :) Most paths are steep and have LOTS of stairs. The stairs and the views may leave some of us gasping for air :) If you hate taking the stairs when the escalator is out, this hike is not for you. We will sweat and climb quite a bit.
Here are some pictures of some stairs so you know what to expect:
The waterfall is on private property. There are well-established trails on the property and word has it that the owner doesn't mind polite trespassers.
Side note- The waterfall is probably dried up now since it hasn't been raining so we may not stop to see it.
Please no dogs on this hike.
Bring lots of water for you sunblock/sunglasses/hat, and wear comfortable walking shoes.
MEETING SPOT AND DIRECTIONS
We will meet at Euclid and Eunice Ave, close to the Berkeley Rose Garden. You can park on the street - no meters or any other restrictions. Please look up directions ahead of time and be realistic about traffic, work commitments, etc... In other words, don't sign up unless you can make it. We will only wait a few minutes past the posted start time. Please be on time and update your RSVP if plans change. We will only take 20 people on this hike.
Here's the great view from the top!
