September plants in Briones

We will walk through some meadows at the top of the park, where
there are sometimes an abundance of fragrant tarplants.
Always meadowlarks and bluebirds. Distance will be about 3 miles. Mostly level, some short up and down sections. Bring lunch, since we plan on getting back to the cars about 2pm. Bring water, and be prepared for the forecast temperature. Depending on the wind direction, it may be hot.

Directions: From west of the Bay hills, go east on 24 and exit
at Pleasant Hill Road. Go north on Pleasant Hill Road 0.5 mile
and then turn left onto Reliez Valley Road. Go 4-5 miles on
Reliez Valley Road to its end at the junction with Alhambra
Valley Road. Ignore the entrance signs on Reliez Valley Road
and continue straight on Alhambra Valley Road to the first
left turn, which is Briones Road. Go about 1.5 miles to the end
of Briones Road and park on either side of the road. For the
Pinole/Martinez area, just proceed down Alhambra Valley
Road and follow the directions to the end of Briones Road.

I'm most embarrassed to realize, 2 days after the fact, that I had committed to this outing, only to forget all about it until this moment. I was a no-show. Sorry about that! I trust the foliage...and wildlife...was lovely. You all are a nifty group, and I look forward to participating in another outing with you before too much time elapses. Judging from the comments below, it was indeed an enjoyable event.

I agree! The combined knowledge of the group is impressive. Many thanks to Gregg for his leadership.

Great first time exploring with this group. I was talking to some of the others and they tell me some of these hikes can have 25 people, i'm looking forward to meeting new people and learning more about native California plants. Thanks again Gregg! I'll post those pictures soon.

Hi Regina, I don't know which side of Lake Merritt you live on. However if you can get to the parking entrance kiosk next to Fairyland by 9:10 am, I'll stop by there and give you a ride. Please wait on the Grand Ave side of the kiosk, so I don't have to pay for parking.

Just to clarify, there is a stoplight at the entrance that leads to the parking kiosk (another attraction for an old truck). The sidewalk to the main Fairyland entrance. As you face away from Grand Ave., the Lakeside Garden Center is beyond the entry kiosk to the left side of the street, and the sidewalk to the main Fairyland entrance is to the right.

I will not be able to call before I go to Lake Merritt, and I don't think I'll be checking e-mail again tonight. I'll wait about 10 minutes before leaving. Janet

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
