PLANNING FOR SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES - This Meetup is for folks seeking to create or find homes in intentional communities that support living more cooperative, sustainable and affordable lives, for raising kids, for retirement, for living better by sharing more. Thousands of Bay Area residents already live in cooperative housing communities, sharing equity, decision-making, and responsibilities - and a more safe, secure and affordable home in community.
We host EBCOHO events for members and link you to global networks of intentional community friends and allies, pioneers in cooperative culture, global ecovillages, urban homesteaders, slow money, social entrepreneurs, affordable housing developers, green builders, and creative visionaries in the movements for more open, user-friendly and collaborative technologies, economies, and governments. There's a global need to re-invent real world communities, and the Bay Area is one of the world's epicenters.
Cohousing, eco-villages, pocket neighborhoods, resident-owned housing cooperatives, co-living leaseholds and shared equity households in single family homes. Come learn about, visit, meet people living cooperatively, and get help to create your home in community - real world places where we can live more sustainably, more democratically, by sharing responsibilities and ownership --- share community and privacy by design with others.
EBCOHO is a free to join. Members come from every county in the Bay Area, other parts of the US and Mexico. We also support sister meetups, including San Francisco Cohousing, Aging in Community, North Bay Intentional Communities, and Northern California Ecovillage Network.
Just fill out a profile to let others know who you are and what you are interested in. Check out the calendar of past and upcoming meetup events. The Member Discussion Forum is where you and others post openings in existing communities, homes for sale or rent, and meet like-minded other members. You can send an email to other members, just click on their name to go their profile. Your personal email address remains private, unless you choose to share it with us. Members can RSVP and be notified of update. Members can connect with other EBCOHO members at any time, add or see comments to our events.
Use the SUGGEST AN EVENT feature if you'd like to see a particular topic addressed, or if you've got something you are hosting. Events we personally host (Cohousing Coaches Raines & Betsy, that is), always have time for members to share their personal visions, skills and experiences.
EBCOHO Calendar of EVENTS - We curate and post events from around the Bay Area mostly (occasionally in other parts of California): tours, socials, workshops, dinners, movie nights, networking events, skills sharing, open houses, and conferences. We frequently host pop-up talks with visiting community founders and experts in sustainable living from around the world. We post many more events than those with Featured status. Check back at least weekly, if you don't choose to receive emails.
Supporting Members and Coaching Clients help with overall expenses of this project -- We thank you with a free orientation, and discounts to future events hosted by us and some of our sponsors/partners.
CHECK IT OUT - cooperative culture is already here; it's not utopia, but if you want to explore and create we welcome you at East Bay Cohousing.
MORE.... about us:
Cohousing California and East Bay Cohousing are part of a labor of love organized by Cohousing Coaches Raines Cohen and Betsy Morris, under the umbrella of our business, Planning for Sustainable Communities. We live together at Berkeley Cohousing, and formerly at Addison Court Housing Cooperative, Swan's Market Cohousing, 63 Prospect Street, and Casa Zimbabwe. We combine many years of experience with user groups, research in community development and urban planning, speaking, writing, visiting, training, providing executive leadership and serving on nonprofit boards as well as networking internationally. In addition to sharing through EBCOHO events and websites, we are available for technical assistance on a consulting basis.
We connect a wide variety of kindred spirits and resources. We support individual seekers to create forming groups and we support existing cohousing and cooperative communities to find members who understand cooperative culture. Please find out more at cohousingcoaches.com, or Raines.com and BetsyMorris.com.
