EBCOHO Members Welcome and Orientation (S. Berkeley)

Time for another East Bay Cohousing orientation. Welcome welcome! So many new members; so many opportunities for growing sustainable communities.  If you've been a lurking - it's 2013, come on out already!

Cohousing, housing cooperatives, cohouseholding, communes and ecovillages - Intentional communities, transition towns, nonprofit affordable housing, senior "villages" -- What's the difference and why does it matter?

What's living one of these communities really like?  Should I join an existing community or start my own? Where do I find openings? How do cooperative communities really work?  Who's in charge?  You'll get answers and links to a world of resources at our EBCOHO orientation.

What others say:  Betsy and Raines were excellent facilitators - they shared a wealth of knowledge about the different communities and their styles, and wove in discussion that addressed the specific questions of each attendee. They did not hesitate to think creatively about solutions that met the constraints of attendees. (Gautam Agarwal)

“ I've attended two meetings, and both delivered a lot of information in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. ” Deborah wrote .

Doors open at 10:30 for a little social time and set up; Program runs from 10:45 to 12:45, with a little more time for networking.

Agenda usually includes: Member introductions and goals; overview of different types of intentional communities in the Bay Area; Q&A; how to use EBCOHO and other online resources, community-building game or exercise, and time for open sharing on your experience and interests. Betsy Morris, cohousing coach and community developer, will facilitate.

The orientation fee of $20 per household helps cover ongoing EBCOHO expenses.  Bring a friend and save up to $5 each; supporting members (and members of supporting groups) pay just $10. Your contribution is refunded if you become a supporting member on the spot. (Supporting members get our thanks, a free Cohousing book and a free coaching session, plus discounts on many of our events).

If you RSVP for multiple people, MeetUp will tell you the price is per person, but relax... it's really just per household.

Afterwards, join us at very special event from 1 to 5 at the Berkeley Unitarian Fellowship on Cedar and Bonita. Good group process is essential for thriving cooperative communities.  Some of our EBCOHO members have begun using the GroupWorks Deck, a pattern language for bringing life to meetings and other gatherings.  Here's a chance to explore, through games and discussion, the patterns and dynamics that support working with others in trust to learn, share, plan, make decisions, and resolve conflicts - all part of co-creating the communities we want and need. Click here for more info and to RSVP for this GroupWorks event. (If you are already familiar with the deck or are an experienced group facilitator, check out Friday night's GroupWorks event at the Long Haul)

If you can't come out with us this Saturday -- fear not! Keep eye on the EBCOHO calendar for what's coming up. Hope to see you soon.
