Bay Area Senior Women's Housing Options Meeting

  • Oct 24, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

EBCOHO members recommend BASWHO highly!  Although not specifically focused on living more cooperatively, it's a great way to find likeminded and sympathetic women of all backgrounds and future interests, and to get a slew of ideas to move forward on your housing quest - short-term and long-term. Several EBCOHO'ers are planning follow up sessions for those specifically seeking housemates, or getting to know each other for longer term cohousing and cohouseholding opportunities.

BASWHO's sixth of the six-part pilot project takes place on Thursday, October 24th.

It is evident that BASWHO is meeting a vital need, given that over 40 Bay Area women seeking housing options continue to attend and enthusiastically participate in each meeting.

BASWHO plans to continue and needs your input in identifying what directions to take as we move forward.  Therefore, part of the October meeting will include a discussion to evaluate the project. Your feedback will be invaluable as we develop our next steps.

BASWHO, sponsored by Bay Area chapter of The Transition Network (TTN) in cooperation with The Brain Exchange (BREX), uses a structured brainstorming approach to explore housing options and alternatives.

All housing-related questions, no matter how conventional or far-out are welcomed. Hearing responses to other peoples' question often gives insight into your own situation.  We also give time for women to network and find like-minded individuals to explore specific interests.

Become part of our growing BASWHO Yahoo listserv that currently has 97 members.  Once you attend one BASWHO meeting, you will be invited to join the Yahoo listserv, where each month's brainstorm responses are posted, as well as announcements, opportunities and housing-related resources.

Feel free to spread the word to women friends who are interested in this topic. One need not be a member of TTN or BREX to attend.

They rent for lower than market value. They haven't priced the two bedroom rental yet, it's still being renovated, but for comparison the one bedroom was $1095.

Great meeting! Anyone interested in the two bedroom rental opening up in our feminist community apartment building in Berkeley, please feel free to contact me.

We are gradually taking over an apartment building by renting units to form a feminist community. With this recent rental, we will have half the building. We are conveniently located 3 blocks from BART, we have a back patio area with 3 plum trees. The building is near two parks and a community garden.

I'm recognizing my aging and desire to have more social interaction in my living situation.

how do you find the BASWHO email group? Am interested but living in Northbay and that is far to go for an evening.

Katie, the group is only open to people who have attended the gatherings. If you want to call together some similar North Bay discussions, we can help with that.

I would like to go to this but I do not get out of work until 6 and I would be driving from Hayward. Would I be too late for the crux of the meeting?

    • Raines C.

I haven't been, but my understanding is that it still could be worthwhile, to get connected and get on the list.

My apologies. Sprained an ankle tonight, and cannot make the meeting. Will join in next time.

It looks like your MeetUp Account is set to Central or Eastern Time, Susan. For everyone else it shows as 6 pm.
