Unstuck Economics Transition US call and lunch w/Janelle Orsi Sharing Solution

  • January 9 · 10:45 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Community-supported enterprise + cooperatives + local investing + social enterprise + local currencies + micro-enterprise + sharing ….these all adds up to LOCAL, RESILIENT ECONOMIES, that much we know.  But it’s difficult, even SCARY, to picture how we’ll get there.  The more our economy falters, the more we feel stuck: Stuck in jobs we don’t like, stuck buying cheap unsustainable products, stuck patronizing the same huge corporations, stuck in traffic….

How do we get from stuck economy to resilient economy?  With the help of lively cartoon images, sharing economy lawyer, EBCOHO member, and Director of the Sustainable Economies Law Center, Janelle Orsi, will help us visualize some of the next critical steps and how a new sharing economy can ACTUALLY WORK. Presenters: Janelle Orsi

Note: Janelle will not be with us in person, she'll be on the Transition US call and we'll have in-person conversation.

UPDATE 1/3/2013

Location Confirmed: Motive Collective (see above)

Potluck: Please bring a small dish or snack to share.

UPDATE 1/8/2013

Motive Collective is really close to the Fruitvale BART station, and it's a nice walk for those choosing to avoid auto-transit.

If you need directions or have other questions, please don't hesitate to call Shawn: [masked]

p.s. don't forget a snack! =)

The talk was extremely interesting, and the question/answer enlightening. Setting was intimate with only a small number who showed up. Curious to know why people did not end up attending to see if there are any ways I can improve attendance in the future.

Fantastic presentation and discussion, thanks for sharing Janelle! And special thanks to Shawn and the Motive Collective for hosting the event, we shared a humble yet delicious lunch together afterward and had a great conversation arising out of the presentation. Though a bit out of the way for some people, the Motive Collective is definitely worth a visit and has some inspiring projects and practical solutions to share. Really great place to host future co-housing/sustainably-themed events!

Nan, if taking Amtrak from Davis, get off at Richmond and cross under the tracks to the BART subway; hop any Fremont train to Fruitvale and it's a short walk from there.

Hi all. I'd love to host this conversation at our collective here in Oakland. I'd have to check with my roommates, but I'm sure they'd be fine for a small gathering + dinner (potluck or stonesoup). If you're willing to truck out to Fruitvale, there's a great BART station right up the street for us, and I'd love to get some ideas about our community and what we might be able to do to help -- especially considering our racial makeup (on average) is not necessarily conducive to community building in this community.

Shawn, assuming you've got decent internet (or the ability to download the slides in advance) and speakerphone, it's all yours. I'll add you as host and you can edit to confirm the location. I'll be out of town, but will forward the call access info.
