Introduction

Hi Folks, I am a SF native and public educator/singer/artist. Have lived communally and on my own in the bay area for many years. Am interested in cohousing and meeting like minded people. See you soon!

How did you hear about East Bay Cohousing?

Mmmmm. I think I heard about EBC through friends living in a house with Richard Register many moons ago. Had a friend living in Mariposa Grove some 10 years ago and it was of interest then. I keep track of housing and prices in Bay Area in general. Love the Eastbay, BUT the commute may be too much.

What does Cohousing mean to you?

In this moment I am redefining what this term means. Sharing resources, a la home improvement talents, to sharing common art space, to sharing garden responsbilities and group mind about how to most effectively do that (permaculture, vermaculture, native planting etc etc), sharing emergency considerations (I am a NERT in SF and need to re-certify), sharing civic responsibility in my neighborhood, is all part of what "co-housing" as an umbrella term means to me....Re-vitalizing what being a Neighbor means in 2012....believing that the "sum is greater than the parts".... and also, knowing that I have some privacy to do my own artistic/personal growth work is also VERY imp...so balancing the "personal" and the "collective", via Good Communication and healthy boundary setting is CRUCIAL for effective living....Would rather see that Drama stays on the stage ;-)!

What's most likely: Rent, Buy, Share, Build, Co-create?

Am open to renting, but am more interested in Buying In to housing, if possible, so as to create greater stability/commitment AND love idea of us all being the LANDLORDS!! It's possible that transitional rental housing that moves toward increased options for limited equity buyin is the route to go....am open to considerations. Thank you!

Where are you most interested in living?

Well SF is my preferred spot, but it seems price wise that is not an option (I like working in my community). Am open to Berkeley, Oakland, Albany and Emeryville. Lived in Berkeley for 10 years and loved it.

  • So glad you were there, Rose. The neighbor seemed to be the latest in a number of mentally ill vigilante types I have encountered since I was a young child. His driveway was not a legitimate one but I should have spotted the gate and recognized it. I don't think I belong across the street from him. I will happily go back to Jenny's for another game night, though. Wasn't Pictionary fun?

  • Thanks so much for renewing your support for East Bay Cohousing, Rose. It was great to see you last night at the Alternative Economics gathering, and we look forward to supporting you and your family's vision of sustainable community living, whatever that ends up looking like.

  • Hi Rose -- Sure, come join us for one of the two days if you can't attend both. $75 for one day (instead of $125 for both.) Send me your email and I'll send you the readings. Or call me: [masked]. Have you heard John Schinnerer talk? He's inspiring. And Dynamic Governance is a great way to run a cohousing group. We'll be glad to have you and hope you'll co-house with us, too. -- Regards, Dan
