We'll be talking about several of the key improvements that have been included in the latest stable release of Android 2.2 (code name: Froyo). I'm including some homework for you to do before this event, so be sure to read past the description.
We will cover those new features from the perspectives of phone users and phone developers, but we will also cover those features from the perspectives of web site owners, small-location based advertisers, video/content distributors, logistics companies, community/neighborhood watch organizers, plus anyone or everyone who may be able to make use of the new free Google cloud-based Android push-notification system.
We'll have a Nexus One (with Froyo) on hand (thanks to Ted) and free wi-fi (thanks to the City of Oakland -- Office of Parks & Recreation who are also kind enough sponsor our use of this space). We'll present some slides outlining some of the changes that Froyo brings, but personally, I'd be more interested in finding out what you guys think or can dig up on this topic.
Homework to do before the meetup:
If every one of you could research, select, and print out at least one article discussing the changes that Froyo will bring. Or if you could start thinking about the user cases or business cases that the new features in Froyo could possibly enable you to solve. I'm not only interested in mapping out the recent improvements in Android, but also its limitations, so keep that in mind when you're doing your research and/or structuring your notes. Also, use the comment section below to post any link to any resources you'd like us to see. This homework is optional. Please still come if you didn't have the time to do it.

Thanks to Lawrence Wong. One iPod Shuffle will be given away in a raffle at the end of the night. To be eligible, make sure that you've registered with your real name (or with a real picture of yourself), rsvp'd for this particular event on meetup.com, and that you've attended most of the event (meaning, you can't just show up at the end of the event to see if you've won the prize). We'll be using this meetup list of RSVPs to draw the name of the winner from. And as usual, in the interest of fairness, organizers and assistant organizers of this particular meetup aren't be eligible.

Thanks to: Mark Hall and City of Oakland, Office of Parks and Recreation for hosting the event and providing raffle tickets; Stephan and Ted for bringing Android phones so that we can see live demos; everyone for lively exciting discussion!
