    Herbert,
Thanks so much for organizing such a great day out. Thank you for not cancelling, and as it happens the weather was perfect for the hike we did.
For all the rest of the group, it was fantastic to spend the day with you. You are all such great people.

It was changed to Thunder Lake (21 km; 5.75 hrs) due to thunderstorm warnings. Nice weather throughout until we got into the cars. Then it was pouring rain.

If it is alright, i will skip meeting you at Walmart and meet you at Lightning Lake, (I may head to Manning tonight)?

Excellent hike, Herbert. Kudos to you for not cancelling it, for not changing it, and for going ahead with what turned out to be a very nice day and a very fun hike.

Isn't it dangerous to be outside underneath trees when there is thunder and lightning? I am just wondering if it's safe to go tomorrow, even if it's not near the top. What do you think?

    September 6, 2013

    • Herbert

Lightning (electricity) travels through the path of least resistance. That is it is going to strike the mountain top if it does. At a much lower level, it is unlikely to be affected.

      Sounds good!

Mt. Frosty is the highest point in Manning Park. The weather forecast is 40% showers in the morning and 80% thundershowers in the afternoon. I think I will not take any chances; we will hike to Thunder lake (safer at lake level) instead. Round trip is still about 6 hrs. If Frosty is a must for you, and you want to skip this one, I can understand; just refresh your RSVP.

I am glad that I have been confirmed. Unfortunately, I will need a ride to the Wal-Mart at Granview Hwy. I live at 19th and Dunbar but can take transit. However, there are buses like the 99 that do not run at 6am and the 9 only from Fir and Broadway. Hope this works out for me. Deanna

    • Herbert

Ask redbike or Michael (both from D/T) for a ride to Wal-mart; applies to others as well

      August 26, 2013

  • Herbert

Poyan: Mt. Frosty is quite a climb (elevation gain). I will let you know after your Elfin Lake hike with us.

    August 13, 2013

    • Poyan

I have done Elfin Lakes in the past with good results. Sounds good though!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
