This will be a two day trip and everyone is responsible for finding their own accommodation for the night of Saturday, Dec 1st. Some of us will be staying at the Hi-Whistler Hostel, which is very reasonable (approximately $40 per person for the night) but is a hostel - nice but not 5 star luxury :) Website link below.
Would advise to book as soon as possible as it will fill up.
**Please be prepared for winter conditions. Lots of layers and warm clothing and a spare set of clothing to change into after the snowshoeing. You'll also need a headlamp just in case. Dark comes early at this time of year! Also, water bottles are better than camelback type hydration systems as the hoses often freeze in the cold weather.
Day 1 (Sat Dec 1st): We will meet up at Park Royal to sort out carpooling and then drive up and snowshoe into Joffre Lakes (South of Pemberton). This will likely be a 5-6 hr snowshoe trip.
We will return to Hi-Whistler or wherever you've booked accommodation and check in and perhaps all get together for dinner in on of Whistler's many restaurants. This can be discussed.
Day 2: Sunday Dec 2nd - Snowshoeing in the Callaghan Valley, south of Whistler. Depending on conditions, we will likely do a combination of Alexander Falls and Finger Lake Loop and head back to Vancouver when we're done.
REMINDER! What to Bring:
Water-proof &/or wind-resistant Jacket
Layered Clothing (*Expect lower temperatures at higher elevations)
Hat / Sunglasses
Water (*2-3 Litres)
Food (*Lunch, fruit, trailmix etc)
Change of clothing (*for after the hike)
In consideration of the environment, the limited parking available, and the high cost of fuel, it is recommended that we carpool whenever possible. While the group does not endorse any formal policy, it is typically suggested that passengers offer the driver $5.00 per half hour of driving (includes mileage and vehicle wear & tear). However, private arrangements between passenger(s) and driver may be made ahead of time. Please note in your RSVP whether you can offer a ride or need a ride, and where you will be coming from. Passengers, please ensure you show up on time and bring an extra bag for wet/muddy footwear and clothing.
Please do not leave carpooling arrangements until the last minute. The organizer is not responsible for arranging carpooling opportunities on your behalf - that is strictly the responsibility of every individual member. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Please note that we are not a professional organization nor a group composed of trained professional guides.
