Silverburn to Flotterstone: South Black Hill to Rullion Green

Distance 5.6 miles

Ascent/Descent 500m/570m

Time approximately 4.5 hrs

***Note the earlier start time.***

The walk

We will approach the main ridge of the Pentlands from an unusual point this time, starting from Eastside Farm and straight away taking a steep climb up South Black Hill. We will continue along the ridge via Scald Law and Carnethy and then descend east-ish towards the site of Rullion Green Battle. We then skirt the slopes of Turnhouse Hill and end our walk in Flotterstone, where we hope you'll join us for a drink in the pub, time permitting.

Note that walkers are responsible for their own safety, and no Member or Organiser from the group can be held responsible in case of any mishap. By signing up for this walk you are understood to have agreed to these terms.

How to get there

This is a linear walk, so public transport is recommended. Catch the Stagecoach 101 e.g. from St Andrew Square at 9.25am or Tollcross at 9.44am (for other stops and times see the timetable). Ask the driver to drop you at Eastside Farm, just past Silverburn. There is a bus stop there. The return bus we are hoping to catch would be at 3.31pm (or the 5.11pm one at the latest).

For people who'd rather come by car, it's best to leave it at the Flotterstone Ranger Centre car park in the morning and catch the Stagecoach 101 from there at 10.11am get to the start of the walk.

Dogs & Facilities

Dogs are allowed on this walk, but need to be on short leads, as we will be crossing fields and farmland several times and lambing is well under way.

There are no toilets at the start of the walk (there is a plantation about 30 mins into the walk though :-), but at the Ranger Centre and pub at Flotterstone.
