[posted on behalf of Ian Cameron, who'll be leading the walk]
The water of leith winds its way through the City of Edinburgh passing through many different types of scenery. We will begin our walk at the bus stop at Balerno High School at 11.00am. The 44 bus from Princes street at 10:16 will get you to Balerno High school for 10:54. ***Please note the Edinburgh Marathon is taking place on the 26th as well so the buses may be slightly delayed.***
For the majority of the walk we will be walking along tarmac paths. The first section of the walk takes us from Balerno High school to the Water of leith Visitors centre which is a convenient rest stop as they have a small cafe there and more importantly toilet facilities.
This section takes us through the woodland of Colinton dell.
Once everyone has had a rest at the visitors centre we will continue on our way heading towards Roseburn, this section will take us through the beautiful saughton park gardens we then detour slightly as due to the Tram works the path is closed, however the diversion route is very short.
We are now in sight of Murrayfield stadium and will proceed through roseburn park.
Once we cross the road at Roseburn we will then head down the steps at roseburn cliff to rejoin the walkway.
This section of the walk is nice and peaceful and it is easy to forget you are still in the city.
Eventually we will end up at stockbridge where there are toilets for those that need them, before we set of on the final section of the walk from stockbridge to leith.
The whole walk is 12.75 miles and I would hope that we could manage this in about 5.5hours (including breaks) which would give us an average speed of approximately 3 mph.
Walkers are responsible for their own safety, and no member or organizer from the group can be held responsible in case of any mishap. By signing up for this walk you are understood to have agreed to these terms.
As is normal for the groups walks dogs are permitted but for the enjoyment of all those on the walk they should be kept under control at all times and long/retractable leads are not permitted as these are a trip hazard .
