Let's go up Arthur’s Seat on a Sunday afternoon

  • Nov 3, 2013 · 12:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

A vigorous walk up and around Edinburgh’s finest extinct volcano.

A reasonable level of fitness is required and you should be prepared for the more challenging routes. You'll need proper walking shoes as it can be muddy and slippery, as well as a weatherproof jacket.

Walk Details

Distance: estimated 5 km (3 miles)

Total Ascent: estimated 400 meters

Approximate duration, including breaks: 2 hours

Meet me at the the black information kiosk in the Holyrood carpark (close to the Palace and opposite the crags). Leaving at 12.10pm, returning to the kiosk. The exact route will be chosen on the day and we'll walk for up to two hours.  Weather permitting, we'll take in a full 360 degree panorama of Lothian and beyond, including unparalleled views of the city from many vantage points en-route.

Dogs are welcome on this walk and in the pub, but must be kept under control at all times and on a short lead as required.

Following the walk, we'll be taking a short stroll to Hemma bar for refreshments.

Getting there

It's a short walk from bus stops at the east end of Princess Street or on North Bridge, which are served by most Lothian Buses. Services 35 and 36 stop at the foot of the Royal Mile near the Parliament and Palace.

My first outing with this group was really great, a pleasant walk, slippery at times! with spectacular views and some worthwhile photo opportunitys. a good social drink afterwards rounded off a good afternoon's activity.

Eman, the meeting point is easy to find. We meet in the car park next to the palace. So with your back to Parliament, the palace on your left and Arthurs Seat on your right, there is a black information centre in front of you at the other end of the car park. See you there!

This will be my first outing with this group and I'm looking forward seeing this wonderful city wilderness again and meeting some new people with a shared interest.

I won't be able to come after all, as the first 36 bus on Sundays doesn't get there until 12.20pm. Have a good time!
