Pentlands Linear Walk : Hillend to Balerno

This is a little bit more strenuous than my normal pentlands walk but it does deliver a little bit of everything. Parts of this route are fairly exposed so walking poles would make it more enjoyable.

Starting at Hillend at 11.15am we will make our way to the top of Caerketton Hill (this is the most strenuous part of the walk). After a short rest we will then head up to the top of Allermuir Hill, once there we will skirt round Capelaw Hill and make our way to Bonaly Reservoir where we will stop for lunch.

After lunch we will then head to Glencorse reservoir, once there we proceed along the road to the Howe where we stop for a break.

We then pass through the Green Cleugh and make our way round Threipmuir and Harlaw reservoirs and then make our way to Balerno.

Once in Balerno we will make our way to the pub for a well deserved refreshment.

This is a 13 mile walk with a total ascent of 330m and should hopefully take us approximately 6 hours including breaks.

Getting to Hillend

Lothian Buses 4 and 15 will take you to there. The 4 leaves princes street at 10.27 and the 15a leaves at 10.08.
