HSS-EG: Good Together - Spring Clean-Up - London Road Gardens

GOOD TOGETHER

This is a family friendly event community event, where all are welcome.

We will meet at the northeast corner of London Road Gardens (where London Road and Easter Road meet), where we will pick up litter until around noon. We will then stroll over to the AbbeymountCentre, for snacks and drinks and social.

This will the start of a new project to do worthwhile events in the community, so if anyone has ideas for things for us to do in the future then please get in touch with Tasca.

That was fun. Did I win the most interesting find? at least there was a story to it.

That was a great day out! Good to meet such a friendly bunch of like-minded people and hoke through some rubbish together. Useful experience for some serious bin-hoking after September 2014, perhaps! Count us in the next instalment.

What a great bunch of people! Thoroughly enjoyed myself and had a great laugh - especially at my own expense when I made a career of trying to tie a bin bag :-/ See ya!

It was brilliant to see/meet everyone. What lovely weather we had! Thanks very much for coming out, and hope to see you again for our 25th August Good Together meet-up, if not sooner. :)

I've arranged for some Junior Litter Pickers to be dropped off. See you tomorrow guys.

Thanks to all who are planning to attend! It looks like we'll hopefully have somewhere between 10-20 people on the day. I'll be bringing biscuits - if anyone's a baker, feel free to bring some treats along too. :)

As far as a rain plan, we'll go ahead if there's light rain, would only cancel if it's heavy rain that doesn't stop by 10:30. However, we still have the Abbeymount Centre from 12-1, so even if the weather frowns on us, we could still meet up there to have some tea and chat about what other volunteer/charitable activities people would like to participate in. This is meant to become an ongoing, once-monthly get-together, so it's important to learn what people would like to do! See you on Saturday! :)

Hi all! Thanks so much for posting this, Dawn! One thing: I think we'll just meet first in the gardens (NE corner, as you said - near the public toilets). The Council will be dropping off our equipment there, and then uplifting the rubbish from there just before noon. In the past they've supplied gloves, but they didn't mention them this time, and haven't responded yet to my query about gloves.

At noon the plan is to walk over to the AbbeyMount Centre for snacks and chat about what ideas people may have for Good Together. If anyone likes to do home baking or similar, please feel free to bring treats! :)

Not a problem. For the kids, I'll see if I can get access to the Junior litter pickers with the dragons on them.

Are we needing any equipment like litter pickers etc? I have access to this type of equipment at my work for community events like this.

We'll have litter pickers and bags from the Council, but any additional equipment (pickers, brooms, dustpans, or those rings that help keep bags open) would be welcome.

Hi. I'm a Community Safety Officer at the council and speciliase in Graffiti enforcement. A couple of months back I was involved in a clean up with the community in London Road Gardens. It was organised by my colleague Susan Cunningham. I was there removing graffiti from the lamp posts and street furniture. Very worthwhile. Count me in.

I would like to have got involved with this but unfortunately I'll be down south for my mother's 90th. I've also recently volunteered to help clear up and do a bit of gardening for the Scottish Wildlife Trust (SWT) at their wildlife reserve on Johnston Terrace which is basically a big walled garden which is managed for natural fauna and flora rather than just to look pretty. So please keep me in the loop for future events such as this.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
