ShipShape Leith Walk. 10, 11, 12 June

This is a project I've been working on to get Leith Walk ShipShape! It involves removing unsightly things from street furniture such as stickers, posters, plastic cable ties, marker pen etc. I'm supplying all the equipment and guidance. There will lots of people from the immediate community hopefully so should be a fun day. Free lunch provided. See the links below for further information.

I'm also working on a Mural Project as a diversionary activity to graffiti vandalism in Halmyre Street.

Hi all. That was the 3rd and last day of the ShipShape Leith Walk initiative. We had about 30 volunteers in all today and we finished just of our objective. Brunswick Street to Elm Row.
If you're on Leith Walk, in the near future, let me know what you think of the stickerless appearance of them. Some of the lamp posts can do with a lick of paint after years of stickering.
Tomorrow I'll be starting work on a sustainability plan for Leith Walk street furniture that will include raising awareness with businesses and asking them to remove stickers when they appear etc.
Remember, stickering, tagging and fly posting takes its toll on the look of your streets. Don't put up with it and take it down when you see it - it's against the law :-)
We have some great pictures. I'll share them with you when I have them.

Hi all. Second day we had councillors Brock and McVay helping me, 3 police officers and a couple of volunteers. We've made it up as far as Dalmeny Street. We're expecting more volunteers today after talking to the community who were very thankful for what we were doing.
I couldn't do it for a living though. Phew!
After this initiative I'll be helping businesses try to keep them clean by supplying them with a kit they can use and as soon as a sticker, fly poster or graffiti appears, they will be equipped to take it off.
There's never a dull moment on this task. The Police were tasked by passers by on several occasions. One was a driver who stopped and said "there's a body in the middle of the road up there!" Needless to say the Police dropped their scourers, jumped in my command vehicle and rushed to the scene.
    I'll give another update tonight.

Deidre Brock and I had fun chatting while we swept up Crown Place. Hope I can return on Wednesday for longer. Thank you so much for organising this event!

Hi all. Well there weren't many volunteers in the morning but we had 54 pupils from a local school who were absolutely brilliant. They worked very hard and removed hundreds of stickers. They were rewarded with 2 gold junior litter pickers. When they appeared there was a big oooooohhh!
It was worth it just to hear that!
    Roll on tomorrow!

Our schedules during the week get a little crazy with nursery and school pick-ups, but I am going to try to come out on Wed. morning! Thanks for organising this!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
