Talk: An Introduction to Humanism
Speaker: Les Reid
Les is a committee member who taught a community education class last autumn, titled "An Introduction to Humanism", as part of the City of Edinburgh Council's Adult Education programme.
In his talk after the AGM Les will present an overview of the ten-week course to show the range of topics covered. The topics include the Humanist Revolution in Art, Hume on mortality, Galileo, Darwin, sex and gender, ethical theories, moral debates and the meaning of life.
Les will give a brief sketch of each topic and explain how they all relate to his general theme of Paradigm Shift. Whether this overview will serve as an appetizer or a warning for next autumn's course remains to be seen.
We will be reviewing the previous 12 months, nominating new committee members and hearing about the Edinburgh Peace Initiative. We are also looking for new recruits to the Edinburgh Group’s committee. So if you’d like to get involved in the society and shape the future of the Edinburgh Group we’d love to hear from you.
Please drop an email to Jackie Grant [masked] if you’d like to volunteer or learn more, and as always, if you have any suggestions or comments, please let us know.

Our monthly talks normally feature a speaker, a short coffee break followed by a Q&A session. The discussion often continues over a drink afterwards at the Kenilworth Bar in Rose Street. (The bar in the ROSL is open at the start of our meetings, but closed when we finish).
